    Addison Group Los Angeles seeks a Director of Accounting to join a non-profit organization

    Job

    – The hired Director of Accounting will manage a team of professionals to execute accounting responsibilities. The Director of Accounting will also implement process improvements on a periodic basis. The Director of Accounting will report to the Controller.

    Job Site Status

    (onsite/hybrid/remote)

    – Our client has an onsite work policy at present, although the C-level executives could envision a hybrid work schedule at the proper time. Our client offers seven (7) hours workdays and almost no OT.

    Culture/Environment

    – Our client is instituting an autonomous environment to let the professionals do their roles without overbearing supervision.

    Compensation/Benefits

    – Salary range is $150,000-$200,000/year. Our client supplements base compensation with numerous health insurance plans, commuter benefits, and an extensive list of holidays.


    DIRECTOR OF ACCOUNTING DUTIES
    General Ledger (G/L) Accounting

    • Supervise periodic closes (ME, QE, YE) of the General Ledger (G/L) (reconciliations, prepaids, fixed assets, depreciation, journal entries and accruals
    • Lead preparation of financial statements (balance sheet, income statement) with supporting schedules for the Controller and C-level executives
    • Validate financial data (run trial balance to ensure general ledger is balanced)
    Systems

    • Participate in ERP system
    upgrade/implementation
    Accounts Payable (A/P)

    • Review all GL coding of invoices for proper approvals and documentation
    • Approve all expenses
    • Approve matches and batches of invoices
    • Execute check runs
    Accounts Receivable

    • Monitor Aged Trial Balance
    • Approve all donations for tax purposes from donors
    Payroll

    • Review payroll functions including 401K and health insurance
    Compliance and Controls

    • Ensure GAAP controls are in place and maintained; document policies and procedures
    • Keep abreast of new developments in GAAP
    • Oversee annual audit of the organization
    Cash Management

    • Oversee banking relationships, reconciliations & weekly check run
    • Ensure timely receipt of outstanding invoices
    Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A)

    • Prepare the organization's operating budget
    • Analyze variances between actual and budgeted figures
    Miscellaneous

    • Assist in all tax issues
    • Maintain insurance policies
    • Accept ad hoc projects
    Tax

    • File 990 forms

    DIRECTOR OF ACCOUNTING QUALIFICATIONS
    Required

    • Bachelors' Degree in Accounting or Finance
    • At least eight (8) years of accounting experience
    • Current or prior
    managerial/supervisory/mentorship

    experience

    • Current or prior
    process improvement experience

    • Current or prior
    software implementation experience

    • Willingness to perform accounting tasks
    Preferred

    • CPA (active or inactive)
    • Current or prior
    employment at a non-profit organization


    DIRECTOR OF ACCOUNTING SKILLS
    Required
    Technical

    • Expert-Level proficiency in Microsoft Excel (v-lookups, pivot tables, IF Formulas)
    • Comfortable with multiple data and reporting systems
