    TEMPORARY additional differential of $4.00/hr for all hours worked.

    Osawatomie State Hospital is licensed by the State of Kansas to provide care and treatment for adults diagnosed with psychiatric disorders regardless of ability to pay.

    There are currently two hospitals on the Osawatomie campus in Miami county:
    Osawatomie State Hospital (OSH) and Adair Acute Care (AAC). Adair Acute Care are a 60-bed facility, certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

    Position is located at Adair Acute Care at Osawatomie State Hospital, days/hours may vary. This position may require you to work weekends. A negative drug screen is required as a condition of employment.


    All employees are expected to work in a harmonious and cooperative fashion with other staff to provide efficient and effective customer service: to use free time as available to assist other staff in the completion of work assignments and perform other tasks as needed; to contribute to a positive work environment through a positive, helpful, courteous demeanor towards staff, customers, and the general public; and to adhere to appropriate standards of conduct regarding the use of leave, reports to work on time and in the designated fashion.


    The purpose of the Recreation Therapist position is to deliver the best possible patient care and outcomes by addressing each patient's unique mental, social, physical, and spiritual needs.

    The incumbent will also be expected to assess assigned patient caseload upon admission, plan and develop individualized treatment plans with the treatment team and identify goals and evidence-based recreation therapy treatment intervention strategies, implement recreation therapy groups and individual interventions, write weekly progress notes for assigned patient caseload, write treatment notes for assigned groups and individual contacts, maintain ongoing contact and build rapport with all patients on assigned area to determine response to treatment, encourage patients to participate in treatment schedule, revise treatment plans for assigned patient caseload weekly and as needed, assist with planning and coordinating programs, special events, and meetings.


    The essential functions of this position require physical strength to frequently push, pull, twist, bend, squat, walk, stand for extended periods of time, lift and/or restrain individuals with or without assistance and respond to aggressive individual behavior with specific, trained techniques.

    Must be able to observe and respond to individuals in distress.


    Osawatomie State Hospital Adair Acute Care is funded in part by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is subject to requirements bestowed by Federal and State levels of government conditions of participation.



    Qualifications:


    Education:

    Minimum of a bachelor's degree with NCTRC certification (CTRS) with 2 years' relevant experience or eligible to obtain certification through NCTRC examination within 6 months with 3 years' relevant experience.

    Education may be substituted for experience as deemed relevant by the agency.

    Preferred

    Qualifications:

    Experience providing therapeutic patient activities in a hospital or rehabilitation setting.


    Positions in this class require that at the time of appointment the selected candidate must take and pass a drug screening test approved by the Division of Personnel Services.

    Persons hired must also pass a law enforcement security clearance in compliance with policies of the Department of Aging and Disability Services.
