    Position Summary:

    The Department of Plant Sciences at North Dakota State University is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to work on potato post-harvest physiology projects, including but not limited to tuber wound healing and suberization, dormancy and sprout growth, climate stress and physiological aging. These projects involve integration of biochemical assays, multi-omics, and bioinformatics to discover the underlying genetic, metabolic, and physiological mechanisms that significantly impact post-harvest physiology of potato tubers. A successful candidate should be well-trained in plant physiology, molecular biology, genetics, and omics methodologies and bioinformatics.

    The incumbent will: i) design and perform experiments; ii) keep appropriate experimental records and documentation; iii) perform molecular and biochemical assays; iv) generate and analyze large-scale omics data, v) interpret and summarize results; vi) provide routine progress reports to the research team; vii) disseminate results through presentations and refereed journal publications.

    The appointment is for 12 months with possible extension depending on satisfactory performance and funding.

    Minimum Qualifications:
  • PhD in plant physiology, biochemistry, genetics, genomics, molecular biology, microbiology, computational biology, agronomy, or related field
  • Working experience performing biochemical assays
  • Working experience utilizing omics methods (e.g., transcriptome, metabolome, hormone profiling)
  • Working experience in bioinformatics to analyze and integrate multi-omics data
  • Ability to initiate and accomplish research goals in a timely and efficient manner
  • Demonstrated ability to publish research results in peer-reviewed journals
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and able to work with others in a multicultural environment
    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior working experience in potato physiology, post-harvest physiology
  • Prior working experience in generating, analyzing and integrating multi-omics data
  • Working experience in genome editing methods (e.g., CRISPR/Cas)
  • A good record of publications in peer-reviewed journals

    Advertised Salary: $50,000 +/year
