    We are seeking Planner / Estimators (Specification Writers) to support our Shipyard Client in San Diego, CA.

    This is a temporary hire position with competitive pay rates of $24-$30 per hour. We welcome candidates from various Navy Ship Maintenance / Repair roles, including electricians, pipefitters, shipfitters, welders, and outside machinists.

    About the Role

    The selected candidate will report directly to the Supervisory Planner/Estimator and be responsible for writing Work Specifications, conducting ship checks, and estimating labor, material and subcontractor work at the paragraph and line-item level for U.S. Navy Ship repair work, alterations and modifications.

    Responsibilities:

    • Writing Work Specifications
    • Conducting ship checks
    • Estimating labor, material and subcontractor work

    Requirements

    • High school diploma/GED; Associate degree or higher preferred
    • Knowledge of U.S. Navy ship construction, shipboard systems and equipment
    • Strong oral and written communication skills
    • Trade Journeyman work experience or US Navy experience, or equivalent in Naval Repair Facility or Commercial Shipyard that specializes in U.S. Navy Ship repairs and alterations
    • Familiarity with working in the Navy Maintenance Database (NMD)
    • Ability to learn application programs to develop Work Items/Specifications and labor, material and cost estimates
