    Faulconer Construction Company is in search of a dedicated Safety Manager for our Roanoked, VA area. The candidate will be under the direction of the Regional Safety Manager assisting in the safety, health, and welfare of our employees. Qualified candidates must be willing and able to occasionally travel overnight and work in a team environment. Candidates must be familiar with EM385-1-1, USACE/NAVFAC protocol, AHA development, site specific plan development, and be able to pass a background and MVR check. The candidate will also attend the required safety meetings for the general contractor. The primary area will be Roanoke, VA, and surrounding areas, to include Blacksburg, VA, Salem, VA, and surrounding areas. Though rare, you may be asked to cover other areas of operation that include Cary, NC, Charlotte, NC and Charlottesville, VA. This is usually due to another safety manager being out of the office on vacation or illness. This position is required to visit job sites. You will be working outside approximately 75% of the time. This includes working in extreme cold and heat. Candidates should be able to lift approximately 40lbs.

    Duties will include:

    • Site safety inspections- this will include corrective actions to be taken as well as documenting the inspection with ProCore.
    • Accident investigation
    • Promoting Safety and Health through a behavioral approach
    • Safety training (including excavation, confined space, fall protection, material handling, ladder use, concrete, heavy equipment & road work)
    • Develop AHAs to be submitted to the General Contractor and NAVFAC officials. AHAs are based on contract requirements and EM regulations.
    • Attend any safety meetings that are required by Faulconer Construction and the general contractor.
    • Review plans and drawings to prepare plans and assist in planning activities.
    • Develop toolbox talks that are specific to our latest trends and industry trends.
    • Perform Root Cause Analysis and develop lessons learned to distribute to field employees.
    • Hazard Identification
    • Provide insight and feedback to field and office management

    Safety jurisdictions include:

    • Occupational Safety & Health Administration
    • NAVFAC
    • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
    • Department of Transportation (VA)

    Qualifications to include but not limited to:

    • 3-5 years as a site safety manager for multiple employer construction sites
    • Multiple Trade Experience (Concrete, Cranes, Heavy Civil, Clearing, Rigging, Landscaping, etc.)
    • OSHA 500 Certification is preferred but not required. If you do not have an OSHA 500 certification, you must be able to obtain it within 6 months of employment.
    • CPR/FA Instructor Certification is preferred but not required. As with the OSHA 500, you must be able to obtain it within 6 months of employment.
    • VA DOT Roadway experience
    • Valid drivers license with a favorable driving record
    • Ability to pass drug screen
    • Ability to pass a federal, state and local background check
