    This posting is for substitute Van/Motorpool driver positions that are on-call, as needed, through the school year. Hours will vary.

    The job of a School Van/Motorpool Driver is done for the purpose of transporting students for scheduled routes and/or special trips; enforcing rules, regulations, and laws to maintain safety during transport. This staff ensures the vehicle is in safe operating conditions and safety of students during transport, loading and unloading from District motor pool vehicles.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Drives school van/car in accordance with the laws established by the WA State Department of Licensing as well as the policies established by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction for the purpose of transporting students on scheduled routes to and from school as well as extracurricular activity trips.
    • Performs a daily pre-trip and post-trip inspection to ensure any vehicle driven is in safe operating condition and complying with mandated guidelines.
    • Informs students, parents, and school personnel of events, policies, and practices.
    • Responds to inquiries from students, parents, as well as school personnel regarding necessary information about transportation services.
    • Reports observations and/or incidents (discipline, accidents, inappropriate behavior) in accordance with school district policies and procedures).
    • Monitors student and other passengers during transit ensuring the safe transportation of all passengers.
    • Advises students and other passengers of appropriate behavior for the purpose of reinforcing established guideline and maintaining passenger safety.
    • Assists students and other passengers in the proper procedures during the loading and unloading of van/cars during normal transport as well as in an emergency situation.
    • Conducts emergency evacuation drills in accordance with OSPI policies.
    • Consistently deal with people in a courteous and professional manner.
    • Administer first aid if/when necessary.
    • Perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
    TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

    Job Requirements:
    • Possess a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent, copy of diploma or transcript must be provided
    • Possess a valid Washington State Driver's License
    • Must have a minimum of five (5) years driving experience
    • Must be a minimum of twenty-one years of age
    • Ability to pass a DOT physical examination, requirements of such provided by the State of Washington
    • Possess and maintain a valid CPR/First Aid certification
    • Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance (cost paid by employee), and drug testing clearance
    • Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities
    • Good driving record
    • Good moral character
    • Reliability, dependability, initiative and honesty
    • Evidence of previous successful job performance
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the board may find appropriate and acceptable
    Education Required:
    • High School diploma or equivalent (copy must be provided to the District upon hire).
    Compensation and Benefits:
    Employee Compensation and Benefits are outlined in the PSE Transportation Bargaining Agreement.

    The District complies with State Law regarding SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) and DRS (Washington State Department of Retirement Systems) eligibility and benefits. Substitutes must work 630 hours in a school year to become eligible for benefits. If eligible, SEBB benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, AD&D Insurance, Flexible Spending Arrangements (FSA), and Dependent Care Assistance Program (DCAP). Retirement benefits, if eligible, may include membership in SERS retirement plans in addition to voluntary Deferred Compensation Program and 403(b) Annuity enrollments. Paid holidays and paid time off are also employee benefits outlined in the PSE Transportation Bargaining Agreement.

    Qualifications
    Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

    -Skills in the safe use and operation of motor vehicles, detection of malfunctioning equipment; assisting children using patience and understanding; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with school officials, parents, school personnel and students.
    -Knowledge of safe driving practices; applicable provisions of Washington State RCW and WAC as it applies to the operation of vehicles in transporting school children. Safety and First Aid practices and procedures. General knowledge of the School District including the geography of the Chehalis School District and other districts served.
    -Ability to meet schedules and deadlines, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations, policies, rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of job related situations including the use of maps and following directions; follow oral and written directions and have the ability to get along well with others; work during schedule route times.
    -Significant physical abilities include: stooping/crouching/bending at the waist and knees, sitting for prolonged periods of time, reading/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/field of vision, physical dexterity, arm/leg movement, ability to lift up to 30 lbs.; ability to pass DOT physical and physical agility test for the safe evacuation of a school bus.

    Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, Testing and/or Training required: Commercial Driver's License, passenger and school bus endorsements, void of an airbrake restriction; completion of Special Education training; First Aid/CPR certification; and DOT physical (some may be provided per the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement) and physical agility test (provided).
