    Responsibilities:


    The primary role of the Surgical Services Supervisor (Board Runner) is to ensure prompt, safe and effective care of surgical patients in collaboration with the surgical team communicating effectively with staff, surgeons, anesthesia, ancillary departments, inpatient units, and the leadership team; makes staff assignments, ensure assignments are fair and consistent and aligned with staff competencies; oversees utilization of staff during downtime, monitors overtime, assign float staff as needed; serves as a resource to staff regarding knowledge of procedures, equipment, supplies, nursing practice, policies and standards; ensures clinical and support staff, equipment, and rooms are utilized to maximize efficiency; troubleshoots and resolves issues as they arise; stays current on performance for established KPIs and develop and promote change initiatives to improve performance; communicates the daily needs of assigned OR suite(s) with all stakeholders, including service line coordinators, anesthesia, OR leadership team, surgeons, ancillary departments, inpatient units, admitting, OR scheduling center, surgical navigation center and other hospital departments as needed; coordinates with central supply, sterilization, and vendors to ensure that all equipment, instrumentation, and supplies are available to meet the scheduled needs of the OR, communicates with stakeholders on any constraints and troubleshoots accordingly; ensures that teams are efficient and competent, providing feedback to educators, service line coordinators and OR leadership team on the developmental needs of each team and staff member; inspects all facilities and supervises work performance to ensure compliance with hospital standards and policies and appropriate regulatory agencies and professional practice standards; reviews department policies and procedures on an ongoing basis to ensure effectiveness and compliance with best practice; maintains current knowledge base of general and specialty areas within perioperative nursing practice and standards; participates in all perioperative leadership events and meetings and plays a key leadership role in the perioperative shared governance program; participates in performance evaluation process for all staff working in assigned OR suite(s); accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict; cooperates, helps others and improves the performance of the unit; completes all mandatory unit, educational, and hospital requirements; utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job; adheres to current infection control and safety standards; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; performs related duties as required.


    Qualifications:
    Graduation from an accredited school of nursing meeting the minimum standards set by the state of Alabama, three years of experience in a perioperative setting and current Alabama RN license or current Multi-State RN License in accordance with Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama
