Water Resources Intern (Summer 2026) - Savage

Job description
This internship position supports the City's Water Resources staff in the monitoring, inventory and maintenance of the city's surface water resources.
Evaluate the condition of the City's stormwater system by conducting inspections of stormwater system infrastructure (stormwater ponds, wetlands, creeks, infiltration basins, inlets, and outlets).
Conduct field inspections of active construction sites to assist in maintaining compliance with the City's NPDES Phase II MS4 permit.
Conduct field inspections to determine permit compliance.Conduct field inventories of natural resource areas, including evaluating the existing conditions and health and open space areas and the presence of invasive species.
Administer water quality monitoring and database management, which will include using canoes to perform water quality sampling.Complete surveys in city storm ponds using GPS equipment for the purpose of estimating sediment volume for the purpose of identifying maintenance priorities for city storm water ponds.
Perform general GIS tasks as assigned, including preparing maps, digitizing assets, collecting data, and creating map books.Perform work of routine difficulty including reading sewer, water and storm sewer plans.
Assist in responding to requests from the public for information relating to engineering issues.
Perform related work as assigned.
High school diploma or GED;
Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record;
NOTE:
May be required to use personal vehicle for assigned duties. Mileage reimbursement provided.
Substantial completion of college course work for a bachelor's degree in natural and water resources, engineering, environmental science, biology, or a related field.
This is a 40-hour per week seasonal position working onsite within the City of Savage for approximately 12 weeks. Non-exempt, non-union and not benefit eligible.
Internship includes daily contact with City employees and occasional contact with members of the public, requiring courtesy, tact, and good judgment.
Involves a mix of office and field work, including work in various weather conditions and navigating rough or uneven terrain.
