    MedStar Health is looking for an Emergency Services Technician to join our team

    The Emergency Services Technician will assist the Emergency Department nursing staff in providing basic nursing care to patients with non-acute, acute, and rapidly changing physical needs. Performs a variety of invasive and non-invasive procedures under the nursing/medical staff's supervision.

    Primary Duties:

    • Performs invasive/non-invasive procedures including insertion of routine intravenous lines, urinary catheters, nasogastric tubes, and phlebotomy. Performs electrocardiograph (EKG) recordings on patients, as directed. Enters patient information into EKG machine, places electrodes appropriately, records EKG, and downloads information into the computer system.
    • Applies splints and other immobilization devices to patients with minor upper and lower extremity, orthopedic injuries. Applies knee immobilizers and ACE wraps, as directed. Performs eye irrigations and visual acuity testing. Reporting the results to the proper authority. Fits patients for crutches and instructs patients in the proper use. Assists patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADL's), such as feeding, dressing, bathing, ambulating, etc.
    • Takes vital signs and provides basic nursing support including, but not limited to: responding to call lights, collecting specimens from patients, completing flow, graphic and Intake and Output (I&O) sheets, and transporting patients, his/her personal possessions, medical records, and attached clinical devices (IV's and oxygen) by wheelchair, stretcher, bed, etc. to various hospital locations throughout the Hospital.
    • Assists medical staff in wound care, including immobilizing limbs, and gathering supplies. Initiates and assists in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). Monitors, receives, and stocks equipment and supplies in designated areas. May assist in the orientation/training of EMT-P students, as directed.

    Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma or GED
    • May require up to l year of technical or other specialized training
    • Successful completion of a department in-service training program within the first six weeks of employment
    • 1 to 3 years clinical hospital or EMS experience required, hospital experience preferred
    • EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) required
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) within 60 Days
