    Looking to make the jump from Sr Accountant to Controller?

    Our client, a rapidly growing construction firm, is seeking a Controller as its first full-time accounting hire. As the Controller, you will work closely with the owner to transition all accounting activities from an external bookkeeper in-house. The majority of the work will likely start in QuickBooks, but there is a need to bring on an ERP system in the short to mid-term, so prior experience with ERP systems is a must. Top candidates will be adaptable, enjoy building processes, and have a solution-based orientation.

    This position is hybrid that, after the initial onboarding period, will likely require 1-2 days per week onsite at the company offices in Merced, CA.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
    • Provide insights into financial performance, variances, and trends.
    • Develop and track budgets for projects and overall company operations.
    • Collaborate with project managers to forecast project costs and revenues.
    • Monitor budget variances and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
    • Manage cash flow to ensure operational needs are met.
    • Forecast cash flow requirements and optimize working capital.
    • Monitor receivables and payables to ensure timely collections and payments.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, tax laws, and accounting standards.
    • Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors for annual audits and tax filings.
    • Implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risks.
    • Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making.
    • Evaluate investment opportunities and assess their financial viability.
    • Collaborate with executive team to develop long-term financial strategies.
    • Provide training and guidance on accounting principles and financial processes.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance roles
    • Strong understanding of accounting principles and job costing methodologies.
    • Proficiency in financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting.
    • Experience with accounting software and ERP systems; knowledge of software (e.g., Procore, Sage, Viewpoint) is a plus.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
    • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills, with a focus on accuracy and precision.
    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.
