    Job Description and Duties

    Incumbent must possess a valid class C driver license and will assume responsibility for reasonable safeguards, proper use and handling of materials and tools, equipment and facilities at all times using personal protective equipment (PPE). It may be necessary to work outside and or travel to assist at a field mechanic's location, or a highway maintenance station. The incumbent must be able to work in these areas in inclement weather, which may include severe cold or heat. At times it may be necessary to assist with the daily operation of the shop. Job assignments may be subject to travel, rotation, changes of shift, work hours and work days.

    This position is subject to the Post & Bid process. Applications from a certification list, transfer change in class, reinstatement, re-employment, and training and development assignment candidates will be accepted for this position but cannot be acted upon unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.

    Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Heavy Equipment Mechanic Exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g. transfer, permissive reinstatement or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions..     Working Conditions

    Position located in Sylmar, Los Angeles County.

    Location: Sylmar Equipment Shop, 13200 Golden State Road, Sylmar, CA 91342
    Shift: 5/8/40 Mon- Fri
    Tool box and laptop are available.
