DescriptionRole:
The assistant teacher will assist in meeting the social, emotional, cognitive, physical and spiritual needs of a group of young children.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Exhibits sincere interests in working with children and is knowledgeable regarding children's growth and development
- Exhibits a caring and loving attitude towards children
- CPR, First Aid and SIDS, Shaken Baby & Brain Development
- Negative TB test
- Ability to lift 40 pounds
- Responsible for completion of 24 hours of training annually
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge and experience working with toddlers
- Knowledge of safety issues concerning toddlers
- Be able to lift child to hand washing sink
- Be able to sit on the floor and interact with the children
- Skills in patience, time management, remaining calm under pressure
- Skills in talking with parents, be able to communicate properly and effectively with parents
- Ability to react and move quickly
Examples of duties:
- Care for toddlers daily physical needs: diapering and feeding.
- Meet the emotional needs of each toddlers: talk with, smile at and love each child
- Satisfy the developmental needs of each child: read to, play with
- Talk to children as they are fed, changed, and held, such as naming objects, singing, or saying
- Greet each parent and child daily
- Give children undivided attention, watching carefully for safety hazards
- Complete daily report for parents every day outlining toddlers care and needs
- Complete developmental checklist and anecdotal notes for each toddler
- Participate in supervising free play
- Supervise and assist children with meals and cleanup
- Assist teachers with curriculum planning and art work
- Be able to perform all of the above duties with no day to day supervision
- Be able to prioritize the needs of the children when all the children require their needs be met at
- Be able to clean up a child's bodily fluids without becoming disgusted during cleaning process
- Must attend mandatory meetings and training sessions.
- Ensure continuity of care by reporting to work on time and maintaining consistent attendance and
- Provide constant supervision as defined in Minimum Standards Rule
