    This opportunity is being offered by National Aerospace Solutions, the team selected by the U.S. Air Force to conduct Test and Operations Sustainment at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC), Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee. National Aerospace Solutions is a limited liability company comprised of Bechtel National Inc. (as lead company) and Sierra Lobo Inc. with teaming Subcontractors nLogic Inc. and Chugach Federal Solutions Inc. AEDC operates more than 55 aerodynamic and propulsion wind tunnels, rocket and turbine engine test cells, space environmental chambers, arc heaters, ballistic ranges and other specialized units located in six states. Many of the complex's test units have capabilities unmatched elsewhere in the United States; some are unique in the world. AEDC is one of three installations which are part of the Air Force Test Center (AFTC), one of six subordinate commands of the Air Force Materiel Command organization and an important national resource.

    AEDC's mission is to conduct developmental test and evaluation for the Nation through modeling, simulation, ground, and flight test. Execution of the mission requires a large team of highly qualified and dedicated professionals from multiple technical disciplines to effectively accomplish the objectives of our test customers.

    NAS currently has an exciting career opportunity available for an Engineering Supervisor to join our team at Arnold Air Force base in Tennessee.

    Job Summary:
    The Design Engineering Supervisor will provide daily Supervisory duties overseeing the engineers for which they have been assigned. The Supervisor will also be expected to support the Design Engineering Group Manager and coordinate with the Design Scheduler and other Design Supervisors to develop design plans and ensure appropriate execution for all under the Supervisor's scope. This position will include extensive coordination within Design Engineering and across all AEDC Facilities.

    Job Duties:
    • Support the Design Engineering Group Manager.
    • The primary focus is to assist the Design Engineering Group Manager in conjunction with the other management team members to perform the following assignments:
      • Support management of the design workload associated with the supervisor's assigned section.
      • Line management of a team consisting of 8 to 15 mechanical, aerospace and civil/structural design engineers.
      • Assign and schedule the day-to-day work of individual engineers, adjusting priorities, monitoring status and coordinating with the Design Scheduler and Design Planner on activities.
      • Coordinate work with engineers, Project Managers, and Craft personnel in other organizations to support design efforts.
      • Works with Design project leads to ensure on-time delivery of project deliverables associated with the supervisor's assigned section.
      • On-boards and mentors new hires.
      • Develops training needs of the employees
      • Develops and maintains software needs for the team
      • Plans day-to-day operations. Organizes project and task workloads, selects individuals most qualified for assignments on specific projects and makes task assignments, authorizes overtime, and controls costs.
      • Support development, tracking and reporting of engineering performance metrics as approved by the Functional manager
      • Ensures work is performed safely and in accordance with environmental standards.
      • Implements quality, safety, and housekeeping standards.
      • Manages employee performance and results; utilizes company systems and tools to document results in a timely and consistent manner.
      • Assist with the development, implementation, and execution of common work processes and procedures within engineering across the TOS contract.
    • To a lesser degree, the following engineering tasks may be required:
      • Review of engineering studies and reports
      • Preparation or review of material quantity estimates
      • Participate in incident investigations
      • Committees formed for specific tasks
      • Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications.
    • Performs and manages the work in accordance with relevant NAS and TOS procedures and AEDC standards and requirements including national consensus codes and standards.
    • It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
    • Perform other related duties as required.
    Basic Qualifications:
    • B.S. degree in engineering, or a related scientific field, from an accredited university and at least seven years of progressive and relevant experience in an engineering organization.
    • Current US Citizenship required
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Basic knowledge of industry and regulatory standards, design criteria, and codes relevant to the discipline.
    • Demonstration of leading multi-discipline efforts and interfacing with cross functional teams.
    • Experience applying piping design including ASME B31.3, ASME BPVC, and pipe stress analysis.
    • Experience with machine design and applying ASME dimensional tolerances.
    • Skill in leading the technical work of less experienced engineers and developing new talent.
    • Proven communication skills interfacing with customers while addressing cost, schedule, and quality concerns.
    • At least 5 years of experience managing a team of engineers, including evaluation and setting expectations.
    • At least 10 years of experience reviewing engineering deliverables.
    • Some prior experience managing a test, capital improvement, maintenance, training or overhead project, or at least a portion of a project budget.
