    Assistant Lecturer or Assistant Instructional Professor

    JOB PURPOSE:

    The College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (CEPS) of the University of Wyoming includes 10 departments and the newly formed School of Computing. The College prides itself on research innovation, teaching excellence, industrial engagement, and broader societal impact. With a significantly increased budget, we have embarked on a transformational journey to become a Tier-1 Institution, recognized nationally for academic excellence and world-class research. This includes new state-of-the-art facilities and dedicated funding for research initiatives. We are hiring a cohort of new faculty across the College, and we seek to attract a diverse and inclusive group of talented early-stage faculty and established researchers.

    The Department of Civil & Architectural Engineering and Construction Management (CAECM) at the University of Wyoming invites applications for a position as Assistant Lecturer beginning August 2024. Candidates are sought with expertise in Civil and Architectural Engineering. This is a full-time, 9-month, benefitted position.

    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

    The Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering and Construction Management includes 24 faculty members and serves approximately 440 students. At the undergraduate level we have ABET-accredited . degrees in Civil Engineering and Architectural Engineering, an ACCE-accredited . degree in Construction Management, and a Certificate in Cadastral Surveying.     At the University of Wyoming, Assistant Lecturers are non-tenure track academic personnel who are considered for reappointment annually for the term of a three-year probationary period. Reappointment is contingent both on meritorious performance and on the continued consistency of the position with the University's programmatic needs and priorities. Assistant Lecturers are eligible for a fixed-term rolling contract appointment after successfully serving a probationary period of three consecutive years. Assistant Lecturers are eligible for promotion to Associate Lecturer after a period of six years. Assistant Instructional Professor is a non-tenure track academic position with primary contributions to the area of teaching, including mentoring of undergraduate students in scholarly and creative activities, as well as contributions to areas of academic service. Assistant Instructional Professors are eligible for promotion to Associate Instructional Professor after a period of six years.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To teach undergraduate courses in Civil and Architectural Engineering, typically three courses per semester
  • To engage in professional development activities in the discipline
  • To perform service to the Department, College, and the University, including: mentoring student groups outreach activities to program stakeholders
  • REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

    This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • For Assistant Lecturer, Masters degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or closely related field. For Assistant Instructional Professor, . degree in same.
  • Experience teaching at the college level
  • Professional experience in the Architecture/Engineering/Construction (AEC) industry
  • DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence and use of innovative teaching methods
  • Familiarity with curricular issues and student assessment for ABET accreditation
  • Ability to teach courses in Construction Management
  • PE license, or eligibility to obtain licensure
