Description The Office of Inspector General (OIG) performs many varied functions for the Cabinet for Health and FamilyServices. OIG has six divisions: Division of Regulated Child Care, Division of Health Care, Division ofAudits and Investigations, Certificate of Need, Division of Telehealth Services, and the Division of KentuckyHealth Information Exchange. These Divisions cover a wide variety of job tasks and duties in varied settingsthroughout Kentucky, which include inspecting and licensing child care and healthcare facilities and services,conducting investigations of complaints in those facilities, conducting Medicaid fraud, and other types ofcomplaints for the Cabinet. OIG is also responsible for managing Kentucky's Health Information Exchange,which is the technical infrastructure or network that enables doctors, hospital staff, and other healthcareproviders to electronically share patient health information so that providers are more quickly informed andhave access to a patient's comprehensive health history.

    The OIG Nurse Surveyor II position assists in the enforcement of state licensing regulations for healthfacilities; performs certification surveys and investigations to determine compliance with The Centers forMedicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations to include varied levels of health care services, such asacute care hospitals, hospice, and home health; and observes the quality of patient care and associated medicalrecords.

    We offer flexible scheduling and telecommuting for employees who have successfully completed the probationaryperiod. The candidate may need to report to the office as needed.

    Responsibilities and duties:
  • OIG Nurse Surveyor II's conduct inspections of healthcare facilities and services for licensure andcertification purposes.
  • Key responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Coordinates and assists in the enforcement of state licensing regulations for health facilities.
  • Performs certification surveys and investigations to determine compliance with The Centers for Medicare andMedicaid Services (CMS) regulations.
  • Completes all aspects of the survey process.
  • Completes training and obtains Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test certification from the Centers forMedicaid and Medicare.
  • Assists in the development of program information and materials.
  • Observes the quality of patient care and associated medical records.
  • Participates in conferences, webinars, and other types of training to improve knowledge and skills relatedto regulation of healthcare facilities.

  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully.
  • Ability to interpret regulations, policy and procedures, and apply them correctly.
  • Ability to be flexible with work schedules, work assignments, travel, and mandatory overtime and weekends when needed.
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills.
  • Proficiency with use of computers, tablets, and smart phones for daily tasks.
  • Prefer applicants who are SMQT Certified.
  • Physical ability and energy to traverse large healthcare facilities for extended periods of time during surveys/inspections.
  • Ability to travel and stay overnight for several days depending on the location, length, and type of surveybeing conducted.

    EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years' experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
    Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A bachelor's degree will substitute for one year as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
