    YOUR OPPORTUNITY

    The Buyer is responsible for general procurement and inventory management, including but not limited to, establishing and implementing strategies for managing categories and competitively bidding assigned areas which may include direct, indirect, services, energy, or capital related spend. Collaboration with key stakeholders and suppliers to develop and deliver best in class inventory management solutions and strategies. The Kansas City Procurement Team focuses on supplier and contract management for the company's largest categories of spend, capital equipment, product innovation, multi-plant collaborative raw material sourcing, MRO, facility services, continuous improvement, and spend analytics.This role will lead or participate in project teams. This role has no direct reports.

    RESPONSIBILITIES TASKS
    • Identifies logical categories of supply items and supply chain services, utilizing ERP system and other information available for the purpose of creating Requests for Quote (RFQ.)
    • Prepares and distributes RFQs to vendors able to bid and supply items.
    • Analyzes bids, provides recommendations, negotiates price and terms and conditions, collaborates contract review with Legal resources, awards business, and tracks savings.
    • Provides item procurement and supply chain support for Seaboard Foods plants.
    • Provides buying purchase order support for assigned categories and other areas as needed.
    • Collaborates with peers at other Seaboard divisions and affiliates (Triumph Foods, Daily's, Butterball, STF, Seaboard Energy) on programs that leverage combined spend and reduce costs where opportunities exist. Manages select projects as identified.
    • Provides key support to the Purchasing Distribution Managers (Plant Live Distribution Center) through sourcing and vendor relations.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management, or equivalent work experience.
    • Related internship experience or 2+ years' purchasing experience required.
    • Analytically savvy with strong attention to detail.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel software.
    • Food manufacturing or consumer goods supply chain experience preferred.
    • Must possess strong written and oral communication skills, have the ability to prepare reports and business correspondence and present information.
    • Must be able to effectively respond to questions from customers, vendors and internal stakeholders.
    • 20% travel as needed.
