    General Description

    The purpose of this jobs within the organization is to serve as the police bureau Public Information Official (PIO), Grant Writer (GW) and Crime Solver's Liaison (CLS).

    This job works under administrative supervision, developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this job. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

    Essential Functions

    Essential Functions:

    Writes press releases and conducts on-camera or audio interviews for media driven mass communication.

    Makes reports to major news outlets as needed.

    Creates all media related products including press releases, Responds to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Requests and other media or community related activities.

    Participates in other media relations activities, which may include: responding to routine inquiries, drafting, editing, and distributing news releases; identifying and communicating newsworthy stories; organizing press events

    Enters data for grant submissions, manages and reports to various sources including local, state, federal government; nonprofit and business sources.

    Administers and coordinates all existing grant awards.

    Serves as grant Program Manager for specific grants; ensures co liance with grant terms and conditions and reporting requirements.

    Drafts new grant applications; coordinates the grant application process, assists organizational components with developing the grant concept and drafting the grant application.

    Researches, develops and recommends action on overall grant program management.

    Researches grant opportunities and locates funding sources, applies, secures and manages grant resources and submits all required reports.

    Coordinates crime solvers activities to include: writing scripts, taping commercials, website management, reward calculation and dissemination; and files annual IRS submissions.

    Represents the department on various committees related to crime prevention and reduction.

    Conducts a weekly radio show, composes and records radio and television public service announcements, coordinates special program related media requests, receives tips, processes tips to appropriate sources, calculates rewards, maintains PO Box, calculates and pays rewards based on Board's approval, submits annual IRS documents and maintains keys to meeting location.

    Additional Duties:

    Serves in a perpetual on-call status for emergency reporting.

    Writes/edits a variety of correspondence, reports, forms, and other materials as required.

    Serves as the point of contact for all department related inquiries via the City website and refers to appropriate sources for a solution.

    Performs related work as assigned.

    Equipment usage involves responsibility for materials, machines, tools, equipment, work aids, and products.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

    Requires a Bachelor's Degree in law enforcement, criminal justice administration, police sciences, public administration, or closely related field.

    Requires two years' experience in law enforcement or criminal justice system and in preparing and submitting written reports or other documents to regulatory or compliance agencies. Experience in report writing, data collection, grant writing or grant management, communications, public information or other related fields.

    Special Certifications and Licenses:

    Valid Virginia Driver's License.
