    Title: Manager of Quality Engineering and Sustaining

    Location: Carmel, IN

    Duration: Permanent Direct Hire

    Schedule: Hybrid, On-site Tuesday-Thursday

    Purpose:

    Are you a technically minded leader and detailed problem solver? Do you understand how to turn customer needs into specifications and requirements? Are you motivated by activities and challenges that vary day to day? The Manager, Quality & Sustaining Engineering oversees a team of highly skilled engineers to ensure that our client's products are designed and manufactured to meet our customers' expectations. Most of the teams activities are related to the development and implementation of new products and improvement of existing products. The position is also responsible for process and quality improvement and supplier development initiatives.

    Responsibilities & Requirements:

    • Define quality, inspection, and testing requirements for new and existing product designs, quality system planning, determining measurement and inspection requirements and efficiently implementation.
    • Oversees work with suppliers to ensure the quality of their products and processes meet our client's and customer expectations.
    • Proactively monitor customer complaint data and reviews to determine and implement product or process improvement efforts.
    • Leads risk mitigation analysis by utilizing Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis and Verification & Validation plans.
    • Implements structured problem-solving approach to evaluate and resolve significant quality problems affecting client products or processes.
    • Work cross-functionally with System and Subsystem engineers, supply chain analysts, marketing representatives and program management to implement product improvements to new and existing products.
    • Works closely with manufacturing quality and engineering to support product and process improvements.
    • Receives direction from Director, Engr Svcs & Quality and provides direction to Quality Engineers and Sustaining Engineers.
    • Success will be measured ultimately by a combination of several metrics that amounts to the number of field complaints when compared to sales (measured in DPPM) and the amount of time to identify and implement quality improvement projects.
    • Oversee quality engineers performing quality tasks amongst a cross functional new product development team as well as oversee sustaining engineers as they problem solve and help implement design improvements to existing product.
    • Constant communication channels with direct reports ensuring barriers/roadblocks are being removed for them to successfully perform their roles.
    • Technical coaching is needed for high visibility or complex quality problems.
    • Strong leadership skills and high emotional intelligence are needed to interface with team and process partners.
    • Ability to prioritize and execute when competing priorities arise.
    • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills are required as well as the ability to report out and up on key quality initiatives.

    Education & Experience: (where possible try and bulletize your answers)

    • The ideal candidate will possess a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field at an accredited college or university and 5 or more years experience in quality or engineering, or the equivalent combination of experience and education.
    • Leadership characteristics must have been demonstrated through previous work experience.
    • Should possess 3 or more years of participation in a quality management system and have auditing experience.
    • Preferably has ASQ Certified Quality Engineer, Six Sigma Black Belt or other certificates pertinent to the quality and engineering industry.
    • Must be initiative-taking and analytical who is willing to think outside the box.
    • Able to proactively learn and work with sophisticated concepts including performance standards, codes, regulations, product designs, and manufacturing processes.
    • Able to lead large cross functional problem-solving teams in structured problem-solving analysis.
    • Must possess strong communication skills at all levels of the organization.
    • Able to coordinate, plan, allocate, and prioritize work to meet overlapping goals while working alone or part of a multi-functional team.
    • Strong digital literacy especially with the development and analysis of spreadsheets (SAP and PowerBI experience is preferred)
    • Able to participate in international conference calls (both morning and evening due to time differences)
    • Able to travel ? 15% of the time (both domestically and internationally) to manufacturing sites, other business units, and association meetings.
