We are working on an exclusive Controller search for a PE owned company. The private equity firm has a proven track record of success across multiple industries with building companies from the ground up via acquisitions. This is a truly entrepreneurial opportunity, and the Controller will be one of the first employees of this newly formed entity, reporting directly to the CEO. The role will be headquartered in Houston, Texas.
The CEO is someone I've known for almost 15 years, having placed him in a Controller role "back in the day". He's incredibly smart, capable, and charismatic - very well respected and and well liked by his team.
The private equity firm has already established a fund for the acquisitions and will be very strategic with the targeting and execution of these acquisitions. Today is ground zero with the first acquisition and more to come. This is a unique and incredible opportunity to get in on the ground floor and build and make your mark. We will consider candidates directly from public accounting who have worked with small and mid-cap, privately held companies, as well as industry specific candidates.
The Controller will have full scope of responsibility for the accounting function, including:
- G/L and monthly/annual/quarterly close process
- Preparation of the financial statements
- Management reporting
- Build and manage a team over time as the company grows.
- Work with external consultants for an ERP implementation.
- Acquisition & divestiture accounting – including working with the third-party firm for purchase accounting as well as integration into the core company.
- Coordination of the annual audit and tax filings with third party vendors
- Establish best practices and procedures.
- Implement internal controls.
- Cash management and monthly forecast.
- Other responsibilities and special projects as they arise.
Required experience and credentials for the Controller role:
- Active CPA license is required.
- Master of Accountancy, MBA, or other advanced degrees are highly desirable.
- 8+ years of full cycle accounting with a minimum of 2+ years of management experience
- Experience working for a private equity owned company.
- Experience with accounting for mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures and integration of companies and assets into the core company
- Experience with small to mid-cap companies with the ability to be hands on
- Experience with oversight of the annual audit and tax filings
- Accounting ERP platform including implementations.
- Good tenure and career progression
