    Job Summary:
    The Cardiac Stress Testing RN is a licensed, registered nurse who has completed training in the Cardiac Stress Lab.

    The Cardiac Stress Testing RN utilizes a high level of knowledge of cardiac or chemical stress testing and effectively communicates issues with physicians.

    The RN will interpret data received prior to procedure and utilizes nursing judgment that is in line with safety protocols.

    The Cardiac Nurse must be self-directed and act independently and to intervene as appropriate to resolve issues.

    The Stress Lab RN is responsible for implementing the philosophy, objectives, and standards of care, policies, and procedures of Cardiac Services under the supervision of the Cardiologist.


    Duties and Responsibilities:
    Direct assessments, evaluation and monitoring for all patients undergoing any cardiac stress testing in the Cardiac Diagnostic Stress area.


    Collects patient history and physical review to include current medication records and potential contraindications to testing ordered, based on protocols.

    Conducting appropriate patient interviews.

    Assuring informed consent and obtaining all necessary patient signatures.

    IV insertions and IV medication delivery. Including but not limited to Dobutamine and Dipyridamole. Assists Echo with Definity and bubble studies.

    Monitors the patient throughout the test and in recovery as needed.

    Interprets 12 lead EKG, comparing rest with exercise tracings

    Ability to work independently in an advanced setting.

    Emergency administration of medications upon physician orders.

    Cardiopulmonary monitoring and status assessments.

    Daily monitoring of crash cart or off site protocols related to calling 911 notification of cardiologist.

    Reviews laboratory date for abnormal or unusual results prior to administration of any medication.

    Assists physician in providing diagnostic services to patients in the Cardiac Stress Lab.

    Intervenes in emergency situations.

    Notifies Physician any changes in patients condition or unexpected occurrences. Recognizes and initiates therapy for life threatening cardiac dysrhythmias under protocols and in accordance with ACLS standards.

    Compiles preliminary report and enters into stress system. Communicates with covering Cardiologist as appropriate for significant results

    Proficient in clinical systems and data entry.

    Ensures individual patients rights including the right to confidentiality, privacy, dignity, safety and comfort.

    Respond to cases of cardiopulmonary arrest, fire, disaster or other emergencies in accordance with established procedures.


    Assume responsibility for own professional development, setting goals and striving to achieve them through available resources, such as attending seminars, in services and/or reading journals.

    Performs all other related duties as assigned.


    Requirements:


    Minimum of 2 years' experience working as an RN in a cardiac stress lab, nuclear stress lab, and/or echo stress lab.

    Additional minimum two (2) years of RN clinical nursing experience.

    Graduate of an accredited school of nursing school and is licensed in the state of RI

    Bachelor's degree in Nursing (preferred)

    Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

    Advanced life support certification (ACLS)
