    Summary

    Plans, coordinates and supervises all components of the athletic training program for Keller ISD.

    Works under the direction and supervision of the team physician(s) to carry out the activities in the following areas: prevention evaluation, emergency treatment, physical reconditioning, and rehabilitation of injuries.

    Basic Duties and Responsibilities

    • Model the core organization beliefs and values of Keller ISD.
    • Cover athletic activities within the athletic periods and after school.
    • Prepare student athletes for games and practices by conducting evaluation of protective devices as needed.
    • Treat and evaluate student athletes with the KISD athletic program.
    • Effectively communicate with staff, coaches, students, parents, doctors and administration.
    • Identify acute injuries and provide first-aid when needed.
    • Supervise the student athletic trainer program at the high school.
    • Manage the student software for physicals and UIL paperwork.
    • Maintain treatment logs and SOAP (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, and Plan) notes, written and entered into the injury software system.
    • Visit middle schools during their athletic periods to assess injuries and provide follow-up care.
    • Enter daily student athlete data into the injury and sports software.
    • Set up and breakdown athletic training equipment before and after events.
    • Maintain student athletes UIL and Keller ISD required forms for participation.
    • Participate in professional development activities that are aligned with district goals and assigned areas of responsibility.
    • Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.
    • Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • None

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

    • Knowledge of overall operations of an athletic program
    • Ability to provide injury prevention and rehabilitation services
    • Ability to provide emergency care
    • Knowledge of therapeutic modalities and ability to treat student
    • Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing athletics
    • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education/Certification:

    • Bachelor's degree
    • Current license from Texas Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers
    • NATA Certification (preferred)
    • Texas teacher certification (preferred)

    Experience:

    • Two (2) years successful student athletic training internship

    MENTAL/PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

    • Maintain emotional control under stress
    • Continual walking and standing
    • Moderate lifting and carrying, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching
    • Exposure to the sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather when working outside
    • Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases
    • Frequent district wide and statewide travel
    • Frequent prolonged and irregular hours

    Equipment used:
    Exercise equipment and devices including, but not limited to, stationary bikes, pulleys, weights, whirlpool, paraffin path, ultrasound equipment, and cold packs
