    Description

    Overview:
    The position of District Nurse is central to a successfully coordinated and high quality school health program.

    The School Health Management Coordinator provides leadership and guidance to promote effective school health policies, practices, and programs as well as deliver services to students and staff members to enhance health and wellness in the school community.

    This position follows a 206 day calendar.


    Essential job functions:


    Strengthen and implement school health policies that align with federal and state laws as well as regulations and best practices.

    Serve as a liaison to community health and safety programs.

    Communicate school health and safety priorities to district administration, building principals, staff, parents/families, community organizations and students using a variety of tools.

    Conduct assessments of student health needs and evaluate school health policies, activities and programs.
    Provide professional development to school-based personnel on policies and the implementation of health-related programming.

    Perform evidence-based nursing care, including: assessments, development/implementation of health plans, provision of direct and indirect student care, making referrals for ill and injured students, and conducting health screenings.

    Maintain and implement the documentation requirements for all state and federally mandated student health records including physical examinations and immunizations required by law; coordinate activities with Student Services as needed.

    Maintain, evaluate and interpret cumulative health data to accommodate individual needs of students.

    Employ strategies to encourage families to provide for periodic health examinations of their children by utilizing services of private physicians, dentists, and clinics; develop and manage a process to notify parents and pupils for needed immunizations and tests as required.

    Screen and evaluate findings of deficit in vision, growth, etc., as resources allow.
    Collaborate with other agencies to respond to outbreaks of communicable disease.
    Navigate internal and external data systems, including data entry and report production pertinent to delivery of school health services.


    Other job functions:
    Identify health-related barriers to learning.
    Provide or recommend health education resources for classroom use.
    Facilitate access to resources for school health, including grant writing.
    Assist in the planning and implementation of community health promotion events.
    Coordinate and facilitate committee meetings relating to health and safety.


    Qualifications:
    A Valid Oregon license to practice as a Registered Nurse. BSN Preferred.
    Nationally Certified School Nurse (NCSN) certification preferred.
    Current certification in CPR.
    3+ years nursing experience in a school setting working with K-12 students.

    Approximate start date is August 5, 2024.
    206 contract days.
