    GENERAL FUNCTION
    Under the direction of the Associate Executive Director this position will supervise the development of the aquatic department.

    This position is primarily responsible for working with the physical education and program-related committees relating to aquatics within the Center and Association.

    The position will include the development and administration of the department; program development and promotion, implementation and evaluation, staff scheduling, training and supervision, monitoring safety practices and adherence to standards and financial operation in accordance with Center and Association goals, objectives and policies.


    KNOW HOW
    This position requires a background of physical education with an emphasis on aquatic and fitness related programming.

    A bachelor's degree in physical education, recreation/related area is required (with an aquatic/fitness emphasis is preferred) or its equivalent in related professional experience.

    Two-three years experience in YMCA or similar agency is essential.

    This person needs to have a good overall picture of YMCA philosophy and values and obtain/maintain current certifications in CPR, First Aid and Lifeguarding, CPO (Certified Pool Operator)/YMCA of the USA Pool Operator.

    Because the Indoor and Outdoor Aquatic Departments are major program thrusts for the Center, well-defined administration skills are needed for adequate management of aquatic instruction, training and aquatic fitness programs.

    Additional administrative skills and abilities in the areas of personnel management, program planning, income production, expense control, training, public relations and interpretation, record-keeping and facility utilization, equipment maintenance and care are required.

    The Aquatic Director is part of a staff team at the YMCA and must possess a leadership style that is team-oriented.

    Recognizing that this individual may bring skills in areas other than aquatics, it will be desirable to utilize those skills through sharing of responsibilities with other professional staff.


    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
    *Designated as a First Responder in the event of an emergency.

    • Develops, administers and controls the designated budgets, including meeting income targets and expense control,
    in consultation with

    Center Program Executive.

    • Selects, trains and supervise paid and volunteer department staff.
    • Interprets Association goals, objectives and policies to the community and constituency.
    • Evaluate programs and recommend changes based on compatibility with the Center and Association goals.
    Is responsible for the development of

    new program thrust.

    • Guides assigned center committees in formulating policies and programs consistent with Center and Association goals.
    • Prepare reports as required.
    • Shares responsibilities for Center supervision, public relations, planning and promotions as agreed.
    • Assists the international aspect of the Association including World Service education and fund raising.
    • Evaluates performance, at least on an annual basis, of department personnel.
    • Supervises and is accountable for care and up keep of department equipment and facilities.
    • Shares responsibility for providing income through membership fees and special subsidies.
    • Assists in the annual Sustaining Membership enrollment campaign.
    • Schedules department facilities to assure equitable usage of facilities.
    • Provides direct leadership to specific programs as agreed upon with the Center Executive.
    • Assists with any other projects or activities as may be assigned.
