    Job Duties

    This position will provide support to the Directors of Investigation and will report directly to the Director of Investigations-Field Operations.

    Responsibilities include the supervision of investigative staff and their investigations of assigned complaints.

    The successful applicant will be able to provide direction to investigative staff in the completion of their assignments in order to ensure complaints are processed in an efficient and effective manner in accordance with state laws, board regulations, and division and departmental policies and procedures.

    This position is also responsible for: 1) investigation of cases; 2) preparation and review of reports, memorandums, and official correspondence; 3) consideration and pursuit of appropriate complaint resolution; 4) collaboration with division staff to achieve efficient resolution of complaints, consistent with the Department of Professional & Occupational Regulation's (the Department) mission; and 5) identifying, developing, and implementing relevant training.

    This individual will work from a home office and will be provided office equipment, and a state vehicle or business mileage reimbursement as cost-beneficial to the Commonwealth.

    It is required that the successful candidate will either reside in or maintain their primary residence within a 45-mile radius of the South Central II region's borders.

    The South Central II region encompasses the following counties/cities:

    Amelia, Amherst, Appomattox, Brunswick, Buckingham, Campbell, Charles City, Charlotte, Chesterfield, Colonial Heights, Cumberland, Danville, Dinwiddie, Emporia, Greensville, Halifax, Henry, Henrico, Hopewell, Lunenburg, Lynchburg, Martinsville, Mecklenburg, New Kent, Nottoway, Petersburg, Pittsylvania, Prince Edward, Prince George, Powhatan, Richmond, and Sussex.

    The position will be primarily responsible for any complaints from those areas. This individual will also provide investigative assistance to other investigative regions, as designated by the Department, as needed. In order to perform the duties of the position, overnight statewide travel may be necessary.
    This position is "Exempt" and is compensated accordingly.

    DPOR is an executive branch agency under the Secretary of Labor for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

    Our regulatory boards are comprised of practitioners and citizens appointed by the Governor and are responsible for regulating certain professions and occupations, ranging from architects and contractors to cosmetologists and professional wrestlers.

    We protect the public by verifying minimum competency, investigating complaints, and upholding professional compliance with state laws and regulations.

    TELEWORK OPTIONS:
    This position is classified as a full-time telework position.
    Minimum Qualifications

    • Experience in Public Administration, Public Policy, Criminal Justice, Legal Studies or similarly related fields
    • Proven experience investigating, analyzing, and documenting findings with a preference for experience in a regulatory and/or administrative investigations environment with caseload management responsibilities or any combination of education and/or experience equivalent to five years in fields providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities to meet the position performance standards
    • Previous supervisory experience is preferred
    • Experience in a regulatory environment with a variety of disciplines is highly desirable
    • Experience using data management computer programs is preferred
    • Must possess a valid driver's license, and participate in a driving record monitoring program
