    Description

    The Indirect Tax Manager will be responsible for indirect tax compliance, audit defense, research, consulting, and strategic initiatives. Includes sales/use, GST/HST/PST, VAT, gross receipts, real and personal property taxes, business licenses, business incentives, and other miscellaneous taxes and fees. The role requires advance technical tax knowledge and pertinent experience with indirect taxes. Position will assist Tax Director in all aspects of sales & use tax compliance.

    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*


    • Manage and supervise the outsourced compliance tax functions, such as sales tax, property tax, unclaimed property and Canadian GST/HST.


    • Manage and coordinate all aspects of the preparation of value added tax ("VAT") reporting.


    • Prepare and review correspondence relating to various tax issues including Sales Tax audits, Canadian Province audits, County Appraisal jurisdictions, State Unclaimed Property departments and other miscellaneous tax notices.


    • Assist with managing jurisdictional audits, including direct interaction with auditors and providing guidance to department staff.


    • Analyze sales tax reserves, including related interest and penalties, at least quarterly. Update documentation as necessary


    • Reconcile tax payments to ensure accuracy and proper allocation to internal accounts


    • Research, analyze, interpret, document, and apply domestic tax issues including sale of digital assets/services and applicability of marketplace facilitator rules


    • Coordinate tax system maintenance, including jurisdictional setups, product taxability, use tax allocations, tax matrices, system updates, and customer resale and exemption certificates.


    • Assist with technical analyses to determine where the Company should register for sales tax as we enter new states.


    • Identify areas of improvement for the department, including but not limited to efficiency initiatives, department and branch training, system enhancements, compliance accuracy, and mitigating audit exposure related to areas of Indirect Tax Responsibility.


    • Mentor Indirect Tax associates, identifying goals for the department and potential goals for their direct reports, based on work engaged with associates, in order to meet department goals; support and encourage the professional development of all department associates, as needed


    • Provide tax and general assistance to the Department Head


    • Continuously pursue professional education, updates, best practice information, professional publications, and mentoring relationships to remain abreast of tax law developments that will impact the organization


    • Work collaboratively with others within and outside of Global Tax function to achieve goals, simplify processes, reduce costs, prevent loss, and to ensure that work is completed safely, accurately, and on time

    BASIC AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE)


    • Bachelor's degree required


    • Emphasis in accounting, finance or related field preferred


    • CPA preferred


    • Minimum of 4 years of sales and use tax experience required


    • Public accounting experience preferred


    • Previous experience in performing tax research and technical tax return review is required


    • Previous experience working with sales and use tax preparation software (OneSource) is strongly preferred


    • Experience in training and supervising staff and seniors
