General Information
Beds: 13 Pre-Op, 15 PACU, 6 Phase 2 Recovery
Minimum experience:
Must have 1.5 years of experience updated 11/6/23
Patient Types:
Infants-Geriatric patient population they do not recover a ton of infants and would be trained on recovery of that population.
Endo will help prep and discharge Endo patients but would not work Intra-op
Ambulatory/Elective, acute care/trauma
Patient Ratios:
RN:
Pre-Op 1:2, PACU 1:1 or 1:2, Phase 2 1:1-3
LPN:
Pre-Op 1:2 Endo 1-2
All ratios dependent on acuity levels, presence of airways, ages, comorbidities, or on any special monitoring, etc.
Required Certifications:

BLS, ACLS, PALS
LPN:
BLS
Required Education:
Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing
Skills required:
RN:
May be learned in orientation, but competencies include: IV insertion, ventilator training, epidural/PCA set up/initiation, initiation of blood product transfusions, competency with administration and monitoring of moderate sedation (will not work Intra-op in Endo but would prep and recover, critical thinking
LPN:
Role to be covered/learned in orientation, but competencies include: IV insertion, epidural/PCA set up, critical thinking
Support on the Unit:
CNA:
6 Nurse aids in department; staff numbers - 1-2 Nurse aides staffed in the PreOp unit, 1 Nurse aide in our pre-procedure endoscopy unit, 1 nurse aide to assist in PACU or float, and 1-2 nurse aides staffed in our Phase 2 unit.
Charge nurse: 1 CRN in PreOp from 0500, as late as 1730, 1 CRN in PACU from 0700, as late as Evening appointed/trained charge from 1730 or 1930 until 2300.
Phlebotomy - Nurse staff draws own labs, or is able to call facility lab/phlebotomist to come assist if needed.
IV/VAT Team - All nurses trained in IV insertion, facility policy to have another nurse attempt if one nurse misses twice.
We have a few nurses trained on the Ultrasound to insert IV s and have CRNA team assist with midline or IV insertions if needed.
Resource Nurse - 3 Clinical Resource nurses in department 1-2 on staff Monday-Friday or designated/appointed charge in their absence.
RT - facility has RT team available to units as needed.
Hospitalist - facility has hospitalists for inpatient population.
