The Department of Anesthesiology at MCW includes 120 clinical faculty members, approximately 90 certified nurse anesthetists and anesthesiologist assistants, 10 active research faculty members, 66 residents and 17 fellows in pediatric anesthesia, cardiac anesthesia, obstetric anesthesia, critical care, regional acute pain and pain medicine.

The Department anesthesiology team serves multiple sites both near the Froedtert and MCW campus, as well as several community sites and covers both ambulatory and in-patient services.

Affiliated clinical sites include Froedtert Hospital, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin (CHW), Zablocki Veterans Administration Medical Center (VAMC), Community Memorial and West Bend Hospitals, and four ambulatory surgery centers in SE Wisconsin.

    Division of Obstetric Anesthesiology

The Division of Obstetric Anesthesiology is comprised of six faculty and one fellow.

The Obstetric Anesthesiology team at Medical College of Wisconsin provides care at two affiliate sites in the Milwaukee area:
the Froedtert Birth Center (physically located within Children's Hospital of Wisconsin) and St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center (Wheaton Hospitals and Clinics). Together, these hospitals, both regional high risk centers, provide obstetric services for nearly 5,000 deliveries per year.

    The Froedtert Birth Center:

The Froedtert Birth Center has immediate access to a state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit and to the full range of pediatric medical and surgical care eliminating the need for transfers to other facilities.

The birthing center cared for over 2,330 total deliveries in 2014, 713 of which were Cesarean deliveries. The Anesthesiology division provides care to approximately 2,050 Obstetric Anesthesia patients per year, indicating 88% anesthesia involvement in deliveries.

    The Fetal Surgery Collaborative Group:

At the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and Froedtert Birth Center, anesthesiologists are key members of a growing and vibrant fetal surgery collaborative group that includes pediatric surgeons, advanced practice nurses, and maternal-fetal-medicine specialists.

Together, they provide the best of care to our youngest patients, including EXIT-type procedures and menigomyeloceole repairs. Currently the team performs 14 procedures per year with a great capacity to grow.
