About The Role
The Yard Driver plays a critical role in the efficient operation of our logistics and distribution center by safely maneuvering tractor trailers within the yard and ensuring timely delivery of products to designated locations.
The Yard Driver is responsible for operating various equipment such as forklifts and electric pallet jacks to assist in loading and unloading cargo, which demands physical stamina and attention to detail.
By effectively coordinating with warehouse personnel and following established procedures, the Yard Driver helps optimize workflow and minimize delays.Ultimately, this role ensures that all products are delivered accurately and safely, supporting the overall supply chain and customer satisfaction objectives.
Minimum QualificationsDemonstrated knowledge safe driving practices.
Experience operating tractor trailers and forklifts in a yard or warehouse environment.
Basic reading and comprehension skills to understand safety instructions and delivery documentation.
Ability to lift and carry heavy weights safely and follow all safe working practices.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience as a yard driver or in a similar logistics role.
Familiarity with electric pallet jack operation and maintenance.
Additional certifications related to warehouse safety or equipment operation.
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Experience with inventory management systems or yard management software.
Responsibilities
Operate tractor trailers to move freight within the yard and to designated delivery points safely and efficiently.
Use forklifts and electric pallet jacks to load, unload, and transport products as needed, ensuring proper handling to prevent damage.
Perform routine inspections of vehicles and equipment to identify and report any maintenance or safety issues promptly.Communicate effectively with warehouse staff and supervisors to coordinate deliveries and maintain smooth yard operations.
Skills
The required skills such as operating tractor trailers and forklifts are essential for daily tasks involving the movement and handling of freight within the yard.
Additionally, physical skills like lifting and carrying heavy weights are crucial for managing loads safely, while adherence to safe working practices protects both the driver and coworkers during all operations.
