- Work with AIB Technical Leads to plan and implement operational evaluations to assess anthropometry, human factors, ergonomics, biomechanics, and/or risk of injury
- Acquire and/or maintain knowledge of applied injury biomechanics related vehicle requirements, success criteria, and verification methods
- Assist in the development of requirements and verification methods for lunar vehicles
- Complete design reviews, research, testing, and/or data analysis for vehicle human certification
- Lead and/or assist with applied injury biomechanics support to at least one commercial vehicle provider related to the Artemis program or the Commercial Crew Program
- Lead and/or support human in the loop testing to evaluate seat and vehicle design
- Assist with finite element model simulations to evaluate the loads and dynamics imparted on the crewmember by lunar vehicles; to include setting initial conditions, running the simulations in LS-DYNA, and data processing and analysis
- Assist with preparation of support documentation for studies, including project charters, Institutional Review Board protocols, test plans, test readiness review packages, etc.
- Assist with reduction and analysis of test data, including appropriate statistical methods
- Prepare technical reports, manuscripts, and presentations
- Present technical results at internal meetings and scientific conferences
- Archive data per NASA policy
- Provide inputs to weekly and monthly status reports
- Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the Companys safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel
- Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies and procedures
- Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance level as determined by the Company
- Responsible for completing all assigned training
- Demonstrate a positive problem-solving attitude with an enthusiasm for working as part of an exceptional team

- Must be a US citizen or lawful permanent resident
- Bachelors degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering or a related engineering field, and at least 5 years of experience, or a combination of graduate-level education and experience are required
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member; employee will be required to work and communicate with human test subjects, astronauts, and personnel across multiple JSC directorates
- Highly motivated with developed organizational skills and ability to support multiple projects
- Attention to detail
- Understanding of human performance capabilities and human-system interactions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, both formal and informal
- Strong programming skills including MATLAB, Python and/or R
- Standard PC and Microsoft Office skills for preparation of documents and presentations
- Masters degree in biomedical or mechanical engineering or a related engineering field
- Experience with NASA standards and requirements or similar experience with a broad set of biomechanics, human factors, ergonomics, and anthropometry requirements
- Experience conducting or supporting human health and performance research
- Knowledge of occupational musculoskeletal disorders/injuries
- Experience related to injury biomechanics
- Experience with motion capture systems and analysis of kinematic data
- Experience with bioinstrumentation and data acquisition systems
- Knowledge of statistical analysis methods
- Experience with CAD and human modeling tools: SolidWorks, Blender, Creo, etc.

Aegis Aerospace is currently looking for a Human Performance Engineer to join our team in Houston, TX.
Overview:
The primary function of this position is to support the Applied Injury Biomechanics (AIB) team at NASA's Johnson Space Center. The Applied Injury Biomechanics Lab (AIB) is leading an effort to protect crew from suited injuries, and working with providers to protect the crew from injury due to vehicle dynamics, and to certify the vehicles are ready for human flight. This can include assessment of suit & seat design, assessing a range of vehicle dynamics, establishing new injury metrics for crash dummies and using them in sled tests, full vehicle drop tests, and model simulations to help certify vehicles. Work related to suited injury includes tracking all suited exposures, modeling the human and the suit, identifying, characterizing, and developing mitigation strategies for suited injury risks, assessing incapacitated crew rescue needs, and suit requirement verification. This role will focus mostly on vehicle certification work, but may have some tasks related to suited injury.
