    Description

    Mechanic/Welder

    Ada County Highway District is now accepting applications for the position of Mechanic/Welder in the Maintenance Department. Starting wage is $ $27.80 per hour / DOQ. This position is eligible for a SIGN ON BONUS ACHD offers an excellent benefit package with medical, vision and dental insurance, paid vacation and holidays, paid parental leave, 401K match and membership in the Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI).

    Primary Responsibilities:
    • The Mechanic/Welder is responsible for welding, cutting and heating various broken machine parts and castings as well as laying out and cutting steel from flats, channels and angle irons.
    • The incumbent operates hand and power tools such as a grinding machine, power hammer, power hack saw or sheet metal roll and break.
    • Performs mechanical repairs to trucks, automobiles, and heavy construction equipment.

    Qualifications:
    • Must have considerable knowledge of metals, alloys and standard shop practices and techniques used in welding, cutting, brazing, heating and shaping metals.
    • Must have considerable knowledge of welding, fabrication and equipment repair hazards and safety precautions.
    • The incumbent must supply his/her own tools.
    • Must have considerable experience as a welder/fabricator including experience in the repair and general maintenance of heavy-duty construction equipment; completion of a recognized apprenticeship or schooling program; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, abilities.
