    Specialized Integrated Photonics Engineer

    PSI is looking for an integrated photonics engineer specializing in lithium niobate on insulator to join our team.

    Responsibilities

    • Daily work in a cleanroom environment to fabricate devices in thin film lithium niobate on insulator platform
    • Work with the team to research and implement fabrication process adjustments or improvements to improve device performance
    • Generate or develop physical layout files (in GDS format) for new device designs or fabrication techniques
    • Characterize and process data on fabricated devices
    • Assist in packaging and integration of devices
    • Help improve existing capabilities and develop new capabilities for device fabrication processes
    • Communicate results in regular meetings, reports, and presentations

    Qualifications

    • Experience with lithium niobate on insulator device design, simulation, fabrication and characterization
    • Experience and desire to work in a cleanroom environment for fabrication of devices
    • Experience with wafer-scale processing techniques and associated equipment, such as: photolithography, electron beam lithography, thin-film physical vapor deposition (PVD), electroplating, reactive ion etching (RIE), ellipsometry and profilometry tools
    • Understanding of photonic device physics including waveguides, lasers, modulators, and photodetectors
    • Highly detail oriented with regards to fabrication process recording and note taking
    • Lab experience characterizing die-level devices including optical alignment techniques and electrical probing techniques
    • Experience with physical design and layout software to generate GDS files (preferably KLayout)
    • Experience with Python and MATLAB
    • Interest and familiarity with fabrication equipment and maintenance
    • Familiarity with device integration and packaging
    • Ability to think critically
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Willingness to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment
    • Good written and verbal communication skills
    • Master's or PhD in electrical engineering, physics or similar area
    • U.S. citizen or permanent resident

    Job Type:

    • Full-Time On-Site (no remote work) Pay: $70K - $140K, depending on experience and degree level
