    Position Summary:

    The VP/SVP, Medical Affairs – Diabetes, will lead and grow the Medical Affairs function and be responsible for influencing and implementing Biomea Fusions' vision for Medical Affairs, overseeing organizational growth, developing strategies and supporting tactical execution for a wide array of sub-functions (Strategy, Field Medical Affairs, Medical Communications, HEOR, Patient Advocacy), interacting with senior leadership, and taking a "hands-on" approach in a lean organization. This role will be a balance of leadership, "do-it-yourself", oversight over external consultants, as needed, and management of a small group of to-be-hired direct reports. The ideal candidate will have broad experience across multiple functions within Medical Affairs, a proven track record of successful launches in the US, and experience in Diabetes drug development. The VP/SVP, Medical Affairs - Diabetes will report to the Chief Medical Officer.

    Essential Responsibilities:

    • Build a high-caliber Medical Affairs organization capable of navigating the challenges and complexity of diabetes therapies.
    • Establish and execute Biomea Fusion's Medical Affairs strategy.
    • Provide functional and medical leadership for the Medical Affairs team.
    • Develop and manage a Medical Science Liaison group.
    • Develop and implement Medical Communication and disease state awareness strategies.
    • Lead the strategy and implementation of Advisory Boards with KOLs and other key stakeholders
    • Partner with KOLs to gather information on current focused therapeutic area issues and questions.
    • Establish key policies and operating procedures for Medical Affairs activities, in compliance with health authority and relevant scientific society guidelines.
    • Collaborate with the Clinical Development and Commercial teams with the development of education material for providers and patients that is medically accurate and appropriate.
    • Work with the commercial team and provide direction and input into the development and implementation of successful reimbursement and market-access strategies.

    Education and Experience Requirements:

    • Advanced degree (MD, PhD, or PharmD) required.
    • Minimum of 15 years of experience in Medical Affairs, with experience working in a small and growing pharma biotech company.
    • Diabetes background and experience strongly preferred.
    • Successful product launches in the US and Global is preferred.
    • Direct interactions or demonstrated understanding of engaging with payer organizations, health technology assessors, and/or regulatory agencies.
    • Experience with the medical publications process.
    • Passionate proven leader and committed to helping patients.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated track record of achieving results and optimizing team performance while adhering to the highest medical and ethical standards.
    • Possess a thorough understanding of government and industry guidelines, regulations, laws, etc., for appropriate scientific/medical exchange and communication with customers.
    • Extensive experience in drug development, commercialization of drugs and direct interaction with the FDA and international regulatory agencies is highly desirable.
    • Strong business acumen with a proven ability to execute complex plans and manage budgets and resources responsibly.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a strong sense of urgency.
    • Adeptness at building collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated leadership, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills.
    • Strong understanding of industry, compliance, and regulatory frameworks and trends.
    • Understanding of the complexities and regulations of drug development, drug commercialization, launch and lifecycle management as well as the proven ability to translate medical insights into relevant strategies, tactics and operational plans for the medical affairs function.
    • Self-motivated, detail-oriented leader with exceptional organizational, leadership and interpersonal skills.

    The expected salary range for fully qualified candidates applying for this role is $280,000 to $350,000. An individual's position within the range is based on multiple factors, including education, relevant experience, and length of industry experience; these factors will influence the actual salary offered.
