    Examples of Work

    The following examples are intended only as illustrations of various types of work performed. No attempt is made to be exhaustive. Related, similar, or other logical duties are performed as assigned. The Department may require employees to perform functions beyond those contained in job descriptions. The Department may modify job descriptions based on Department needs. The Arkansas Department of Transportation is an "at will" employer.
    • Work on GIS projects as assigned.
    • Populate existing spatial and tabular datasets based on existing standards.
    • Edit existing spatial databases and relational databases.
    • Acquire, download, correct, integrate, and document GNSS data to existing datasets.
    • Field data collection using GNSS hardware and GIS software.
    • Create maps and figures using geospatial software.
    Minimum Requirements

    Student pursuing the educational equivalent of a bachelor's degree or master's degree from a program of study accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Accreditation Education (CHEA), and completion of 30 college hours toward this degree. Students must be majoring in Geography, Environmental Science, GIS, Information Technology, or a related field with a focus in GIS, and have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0. Valid driver's license.

    Proactive and able to work independently , dependable, well organized and detail oriented. Basic computer skills, basic knowledge of use of GNSS equipment, basic knowledge of mapping techniques and methods, working knowledge of GIS software (Esri) and database design, physical ability to withstand fieldwork in various weather conditions, including ability to traverse rugged terrain.
