    Description

    Overview:

    The Radiation Oncology Chief Therapist is responsible for supervising radiation and simulation departmental activities and the technologist under the direction of the Oncology Service Line Director. Supports the Director of the Oncology Services Line with departmental growth, physician marketing, financial objectives, and accreditation activities. In addition he/she will be capable of applying radiation oncology techniques. Must be willing to participate in continuing education to constantly update skills, as well as Leadership Development Institute attendance. This individual is trained and capable of performing patient care for the age groups: 13 to 105 years old.

    The Radiation Oncology Chief Therapist reports directly to the Director of Oncology Service Line.

    Responsibilities:

    1) Responsible for planning and organizing vault & simulation room activities including developing goals and objectives consistent with the Hospital Mission. Responsible for recommendations regarding patient care, equipment maintenance supervision, and staffing needs to the Director of Oncology Service Line.

    2) Assures that all treatment, simulation and planning documentation is maintained in accordance with state and federal regulations. Responsible for assuring quality of services delivered including accuracy of treatments, simulations and patient records.

    3) Responsible for recommending solutions to inter and intra departmental problems. Maintains professional communication between Radiation Oncology and other departments, patients, and physician's offices. Responsible for assuring patient and family education.

    4) Responsible for assisting the Director of Oncology Services in developing and monitoring Radiation Oncology's operating budget. Responsible for initiating new treatment procedures and arranging education of staff.

    5) Responsible for employee work and rotation schedules. Assists in the staffs annual performance evaluations and disciplinary action as requested.

    6) Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications:

    1. Education
    a.) Minimum requirements: Bachelors degree; Masters preferred
    b.) Satisfactory completion of formal RTT training in AART-approved school

    2. Licensure/Certification
    a.) Registered in Radiation Therapy Technology by the ARRT.
    b.) Basic Life Support (BLS)

    3. Work Experience
    a.) Ongoing learning experience in Dosimetry, a working goal
    b.) Willingness to participate in educational programs and professional societies
    c.) Previous experience as staff therapist and possesses capabilities as determined to be adequate by the Director of Oncology Service Line
