    Application Pool Notice

    Laredo College continuously accepts applications for part-time (adjunct) instructors to create a pool of candidates for each session/semester. Applications will be reviewed and positions will be filled based on department needs. Applications received for this pool will remain active for one year.

    Position Requirements

    Upon employment, candidate must reside in the state of Texas.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities


    The Patient Care Technician Adjunct Instructor is responsible to provide quality instruction and monitor teaching/learning effectiveness in the area of Patient Care Technician.

    Instructor will provide students with the understanding and skills necessary to function productively in the Healthcare Industry. Develop curriculum and instructional strategies aimed towards student success. Provide a safe learning environment for students and encourage the use of available support services.

    Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities


    • Develop course/program curriculum to address the areas vital to becoming a Patient Care Technician.
    • Prepare tailored course documentation suh as lesson plan, courses syllabi, assignments, quizzes/exams.
    • Follow daily lesson plans to ensure quality, consistency, and uniformity of instruction and student conduct.
    • Adapt to different teaching styles to accommodate to the population and teaching modes such as face to face, virtual and hybrid.
    • Keep accurate attendance records and submit required continuing education class documents on a timely manner.
    • Provide students with information about the goals and requirements of each course, the nature of the course content and the methods of evaluation to be employed including required classroom behavior.
    • Measure each student's progress through the use of written exams or performance assessments essential to mastery of unit objectives. Inform students of course progression and provide supplemental materials and/or instruction when necessary.
    • Be responsible for the efficient and safe operation, care, and appearance of assigned equipment, classroom/lab, and all other teaching materials.
    • Must be able to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality by following FERPA standards.
    • Work a flexible schedule as determined by instructional activities and course enrollment.
    • Participate in training activities as needed by the department.
    • Perform other duties assigned by the Director of Continuing Education, Dean of Community Education, VP of Instruction and/or President.

    Required:

    • High School Diploma or Equivalent
    • License or Certification in Phlebotomy, Medical Assistant, EMS or related field.
    • Three years of professional experience in a clinical or hospital setting. One year experience performing EKG or Phlebotomy procedures
    • Current Basic Life Support Certification

    Preferred:

    • One year teaching experience
    • Licensed Vocational Nurse and/or Registered Nurse and/or EMS Certificate
    • Ability to teach the necessary skills for students to become a Patient Care Technician
    • Must be ethical when evaluating student outcomes
    • Ability to maintain excellent working relationships with the program staff and participants
    • Must be knowledgeable, mature, and concerned with the academic progress of participants
    • Bilingual preferred
    • Must demonstrate enthusiasm
    • Must be a self-starter and positive role model
    • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form
    • Ability to instruct and maintain emotional control under stress

    Physical Requirements

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.

    The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.

    The employee must occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds.

    Work is performed in a standard office environment.
