    Job Description Summary

    The purpose of this job is to be a visible presence in City parks and trails with a goal of providing safety and security to all visitors. Performs law enforcement work involving prevention, detection, and investigation of criminal acts, apprehension and arrest of law violators, and safeguarding of lives and property.   • Patrols city parks for to prevent, detect, and respond to criminal activity and dangers to persons and property.
  • Assists Parks and Recreation with administrative and security-related tasks for public events.
  • Participates in ongoing training and maintains required certification and licensure.
  • Provides court testimony as necessary.
  • Performs administrative duties; completes and maintains accurate records and documentation.
  • Participates in meetings.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities
  • No supervisory authority. Work requires providing guidance and training to others.

  • Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate's Degree or 2 years of college in Criminal Justice, Park Management, Psychology, Sociology, or related field preferred.
  • Licenses or Certifications
  • Class A Peace Officer Standards and Training License.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • CPR certification.

  • This position involves frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards and majority of work is performed outside or with exposure to risk.
  • Incumbents may be required to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
  • Incumbents required to maintain mental/physical health required to perform essential functions of the job. Required to successfully complete a post-offer pre-employment medical physical and at least biannually thereafter.
  • Incumbents may be required to wear a respirator and/or self -contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
