    Summary



    The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center is in the active and thriving community of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, the "Gateway to the Ozarks." Poplar Bluff has a population of 17,000, and cost of living in the area is among the lowest in the country. We are within a two-hour drive of several large cities and have a small airport.     Duties


    The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) provides care and counseling of persons or in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling; provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being; and executing medical regimens including administering medications and treatments prescribed by a licensed or otherwise legally authorized provider. The nurse's primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community (ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses).

    Major duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • Screening applicants to determine their need for CLC admission.
    • Performing initial, bimonthly and annual history and physical examination on CLC Residents.
    • Reviewing and ordering appropriate laboratory and other tests.
    • Providing ongoing patient care for stable chronic health problems and preventive health programs.
    • Manage patients with complex medical problems, short stay skilled, short stay rehabilitation, long term care, Palliative and Hospice care.
    • Provide Palliative, emotional, and family support for Hospice Residents after appropriate training and orientation.
    • Provide comprehensive wound management, to include reducing causative factors,

      controlling odor, assessing nutritional needs and providing and applying topical

      therapies.
    • Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.
    • Collaborates with ET Nurse, Infection Control Practitioner, Community Health Nurse Coordinator, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to optimize patient care and discharge.
    • Providing education counseling of patients and family members on admission, during stay and at discharge.
