    Trainee position to pursue research as a vital component of their educational mission and professional career development. Works under minimal supervision with some latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment in research and/or teaching. Performs teaching and/or research work as required within the classroom and/or project assigned.

    Description of Duties

    The following is a listing of typical duties that may be applicable to the position:


    Study genes, proteins and pathways involved in disease management; Use cutting-edge technologies (novel in vivo imaging technologies, ddPCR, live cell imaging, proteomics) as platforms of discovery; Create and refine new tools using non-traditional models to understand resistance to the development of disease; Work within a multidisciplinary team on projects highly relevant to human disease; Design and execute experiments, analyzing and interpreting data; Present findings to the lab and to the UTRGV community; Developing, testing, and analyzing research projects based on application expertise and interest; Aiding in the development of a survey instrument, testing the instrument and disseminating the instrument; Writing narrative summaries of the research results, and related tasks under the supervision of the faculty member assigned; Conducting background research; Developing and implementing an evaluation plan and preparing progress reports as needed; Studying, testing, and maintaining accurate data identified as relevant and/or best practice systems from research results obtained through national studies; Designing and implementing training activities as required; Teaching one course per year in conjunction with faculty member, if assigned; Publishing in peer-reviewed publications related to the focus of the research activities assigned; and performing other job-related duties as assigned.

    Required Education


    Doctoral degree from an accredited University (based on funding restrictions degree may need to have been conferred within a set period of time previous to assuming position).

    Required Experience

    None.

    Preferred Experience

    Experience in collecting, compiling, and analyzing research data or related laboratory work. Experience with molecular biology and cell base techniques and experience with mouse models.

    Equipment

    Use of personal computer and proficiency in software and research statistical applications.

    Working Conditions

    Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office/research environment; some travel and weekend work is required. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
