    Description

    **Summary** **:**

    Under the supervision of the Director of Support Services, the Behavior Support Specialist (BSS) will counsel, teach and support in skill building. These services will be received by the residents, program participants, the DSP workforce, and families to help them understand the purposes behaviors have. This will aid in behavioral support, defining goals and developing realistic plans. The BSS will consult with other professionals to discuss therapies, treatments, resources or any other pertinent information.

    Reports directly to the Director of Clinical Support Services.

    Collects information and pertinent data about program participants, using interviews, observations and other assessment methods.

    Schedules ITT meetings as needed and develops therapeutic treatment plans based on program participant's interest, abilities and needs.

    Establishes baseline data collection procedures and trains staff on data collection processes.

    Provides Behavior Support training to staff.

    Compiles, analyzes and groups monthly behavior program data for program participants.

    Models appropriate interactive and redirection techniques.

    Utilizes state approved interventions and techniques when developing therapeutic plans that promote strategies for growth and success for program participants.

    Provides ongoing monitoring for Support Plans through observation and review of data.

    Attends Life Plan meetings, Residential and Day Habilitation program clinical meetings to collect information.

    Provides in-services and is kept abreast of issues affecting program participants.

    Prepares information for monthly Human Rights Committee meetings.

    Provides consultations to program participant's families and service providers as needed.

    Submits requests for equipment and supplies necessary to implement Support Plans.

    Functions as an IRC member.

    Actively participates in the assessment and intake process.

    Serves as a liaison with psychiatric service providers.

    Travels offsite to community-based group homes throughout the city and to providers, offices, and program participants.

    Consults with residential staff and other team professionals to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.

    Ensures approved Support Plans and signed consents are up to date in each site.

    Becomes a certified SCIP-R trainer.

    Actively participates in the delivery of Core Training on Human Sexuality, Intro to DD and SCIP-R.

    Provides on-site training for the following:

    Documentation and providing correct implementation of PSGSs

    Data collection for PSGS

    New Staff Individual PSGS trainings

    **HRC:** Requirements/Expectations

    Prepares HRC Packet- with completed documentation (BSP guidelines, BSP consent, signatures and data) within 4 business days prior to HRC committee (per HRC checklist).

    Reviews HRC Packet

    Completes/follows up on requests from HRC within 15 business days.

    Submits follow ups for review to HRC Chairperson within 5 business days prior to next HRC meeting.

    Presents PROMOTE plans/ Med Monitoring at HRC meetings on monthly basis, as scheduled by HRC Chair Person.

    All other duties as assigned by supervisor.

    **Authority:**

    This position holds a relatively high degree of independence within the framework of the agency's policies and procedures. The individual must be resourceful and able to display initiative and understanding of the agency's policies, procedures and regulations as well as exercises initiative in setting priorities to task and in making decisions . Must keep immediate supervisor abreast of issues and concerns which merit intervention from higher level management staff.

    **Skills and Abilities:**

    + Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field with experience in behavior support strategies, assessing functions of behavior and writing behavior support plans

    + Must have a Valid NYS Driver's license and reliable transportation.

    5+ years experience in DD field.

    Comprehensive knowledge of behavior management principles and techniques.

    A combination of training and experience other than the specified, if judged to be adequate for the job, may be accepted by the President and CEO.

    **Physical Demands:**

    The position does require occasional standing, squatting, lifting of up to approximately 50 lbs.

    **Pay Range Statement**

    This position falls in a paygrade that starts at $38,220 per annum for a 35 hour work week. We take education, experience and additional certifications into account when determining what to pay our employees. Our pay system is set up to allow our employees the opportunity to grow during their time with us.
