    Description


    Purpose:
    • Encourages donors' ongoing support of the Griffin Fund while expanding their giving to major gifts initiatives at the College.
    • Manages relationships with approximately 100 prospects and donors, which includes those in the early stages of qualifying and cultivating, moving through solicitation and stewardship.
    • Monitors all prospect contacts to ensure positive and purposeful prospect and donor relations.
    • Recommends and assists with programming involving the Vice President, Board members, and volunteers.
    • Assist with special fundraising and donor events as needed.

    Reporting to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, the Major Gift Officer (MGO) is responsible for soliciting gifts of $10,000 and higher from alumni, friends, and other donors of the institution. The MGO works collaboratively with and in support of volunteers, other development staff, and institutional leaders to cultivate and solicit donors for institution-wide priorities.     Requirements:

    Candidates must have a bachelor's degree in a related field and three to five years of successful development experience. Other requirements include:

    • Ability to understand the needs and interests of leadership and major gift donors in order to develop relationships between them and the institution
    • Support for the College's mission and a dedication to promoting the institution's fundraising priorities
    • Demonstrated leadership and the ability to successfully manage multi-functional or diverse areas
    • Successful experience in making cold calls as well as developing cultivation and solicitation strategies
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated record of completing assignments
    • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
    • Experience with Raiser's Edge a plus.

    Responsibilities:

    • Travels local distances to identify, cultivate and solicit prospective donors, moving those identified toward making a major gift within two years of qualification.
    • Manages a portfolio of primary prospects in support of institution-wide initiatives and priorities.
    • Participates in all aspects of the gift cycle.
    • Offers prospect strategy counsel to the Vice President and other development staff who are managing other prospects.
    • Focuses on securing support for a set of institution-wide priorities that include strategic plan initiatives.
