POSITION OVERVIEW
This role will have responsibility for the oversight of the systems, processes, and strategies required for accurate and timely tax administration of annuity and life insurance policies.
Successful incumbent will partner closely with Tax Compliance, Product Tax Operations, IT, Global Atlantic operational teams, and the Third-Party Administrators (TPAs) that provide service to Global Atlantic customers.
PURPOSE:
Leads the establishment of tax-related policies, procedures and strategies related to the efficient administration of life insurance and annuity policies.
Analyzes system problems impacting tax processes and develops recommendations to solve.
Submits recommendations for system enhancements and controls that will improve the accuracy and overall effectiveness of Global Atlantic tax reporting.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Collaborates with Global Atlantic and TPA partners responsible for day-to-day work and escalations related to tax reporting.
Analyzes service workflows and automated technologies to recommend process/system improvements that maximize operating efficiencies.
Assists in the handling of exceptions, escalations, and complicated technical or complaint cases while weighing company philosophy, compliance, business risks, tax, regulatory ramifications and administrative costs
Supports special projects and system enhancements related to policy level tax reportingproviding production support as needed This could include detailed subject matter expertise, research and analysis, writing of test scripts, system testing, and documentation of new processes.
Assists with the creation of Talking Points, Standard Operating Procedures, and other training documents pertaining to changes in tax regulations or processing.
For example, the difference between direct rollover, exchange and transfers, claims options, custodial account handling, the application of cost basis/, etc.

Ability to effectively collaborate with both internal and external customers and clearly communicate difficult subject matter content.

QUALIFICATIONS &
EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent educational experience preferred.
Strong understanding of taxation within the life insurance environment and both qualified and non-qualified annuities, including the tax implications of policy owner activities
Near expert understanding of tax-related terminology as it pertains to life insurance and annuity processing—1035 exchanges, 72t/u, Required Minimum Distributions, Exclusion Ratios, Pre and Post TEFRA cost basis, Modified Endowment Contracts (MEC), etc.
Demonstrated knowledge of operations and process improvement along with strong business acumen and the ability to translate business plans into actionable solutions.
Ability to make decisions, use independent judgment, establish priorities, and work effectively on multiple initiatives simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
