    POSITION SUMMARY


    The Coding Specialist II is responsible for providing medical coding services to ensure the Hospital may obtain appropriate and accurate reimbursement for healthcare claims.

    This position plays a vital role between medical providers, patients, and insurance companies by reviewing, analyzing, and coding diagnostic, procedural, and clinical information.

    The incumbent will ensure compliance with established coding guidelines, third party reimbursement policies, and regulations.

    The incumbent will primarily be responsible for clinic accounts working from appropriate documentation in the electronic health record utilizing provided encoder.

    The position will also complete appropriate reports and participate in performance improvement projects. This position will also cover Coder, Ancillary as needed.

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    o High School (GED)


    o Preferred:
    § Associate's Degree

    § Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Associate (CCA) or similar.

    § Ability to obtain certification within 2 years of employment.

    EXPERIENCE


    o Required:
    § Knowledge of ICD-10-CM

    § Knowledge of CPT coding

    § Knowledge of coding guidelines

    § Knowledge of LCDs, NCDs and other medical review policies applying to outpatient coding.


    o Preferred:
    § 1 or more years of coding experience

    § 1 or more years of physician billing
