    New Level Technology is a telecom company specializing in fiber installation, fiber splicing, and small cell installation, looking for long term team mates with a strong work ethic and a desire to be successful.

    Job Summary

    The ideal candidate will have previous experience in fusion splicing fiber optic cable, voice/data/fiber installation and termination experience, and OTDR and power meter testing. Fiber Splicers are responsible for proper preparation and splicing of fiber optic cable within a telecommunications system. The position requires a good working knowledge of the fiber and telecommunications industry, including: familiarity with fiber optic cable, splice enclosures and the functionality of each; ability to use OTDR and fusion splicing equipment; ability to interpret and analyze data and drawings; and the ability to identify and troubleshoot problems.

    Job Tasks

    • Work indoors and outdoors as needed.
    • Read and construct from a design schematic or map.
    • Load and unload tools, materials, or pieces of equipment and assist with vehicle and equipment maintenance.
    • Assemble equipment according to design specifications
    • Maintain proper inventory on vehicle based on work assignment
    • Prep fiber using hand tools or fiber splicing tools and equipment.
    • Install/repair fiber lines in trenches and/or pedestals using various hand tools
    • Splice fiber optic cables and splice cases with a thorough knowledge of standards, materials and techniques utilizing single and mass fusion splicing equipment.
    • Inspects and tests lines and cables, recording and analyzing test results, to assess transmission characteristics and locate faults and malfunctions.
    • Complete certification testing of fiber optic links.
    • Operate highly specialized test and fiber optic splicing equipment including fusion splicer and ODTR
    • Complete and report all splicing and testing documentation to the local design team.
    • Be able to iterate to the project/construction managers detailed accounts of field activity, both verbal and written.
    • Prepare paperwork to track daily production, and accurately record completed work on job site blueprints
    • Adhere to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.
    • Know, understand and follow company policies.
    • Attend safety meetings and perform all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.
    • Assist as required in all manual labor aspects of the project as directed by the crew leader or supervisor.
    • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    • Must know ribbon fiber.
    • Must know fiber to the home.
    • Knowledge, understanding and practice of safety regulations within OSHA, NESC, and NEC, and other construction related guidelines.
    • Strong communication skills required between splicer and supervisor or manager so that problems can be addressed as soon as possible.
    • Must be able to use job specific tools such as a fiber splicer, ODTR, and optical power meter
    • Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, and suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner
    • Knowledge of traditional fiber architectures
    • Ability to use the following hand tools: electric drills, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers
    • Ability to walk over all types of terrain in all kinds of weather while carrying tools and equipment, including gaffs, ladders, and fully loaded tool belts
    • Ability to read general system layouts from blueprints
    • Ability to operate appropriate computer or test equipment associated with position (e.g. signal level meters, ohm meters, etc.)
    • Ability to work independently
    • Knowledge of fiber optic systems, RF plant, and test equipment
    • Ability to travel 50-100% of the work week

    Education Requirement: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience

    Language Requirement: Read, speak, and understand English

    Licenses or Certifications: Valid Driver's License, Fiber splicing certification a plus

    Physical Requirement: Sitting, standing, lifting/moving up to 100lbs, hand dexterity, speaking, vision, hearing, color distinction
