What You Will Contribute To AltosThe Altos Science Computing and Data Team is seeking an experienced Data and Platform software engineer to scale our scientific data and metadata management capabilities.
You will be part of the team responsible for lab information management and scientific computing systems used by Altos scientists to conduct cutting-edge research.
Additionally, you will work closely with software engineers, researchers, and IT teams to build and support systems that are scalable, reliable, and secure.
ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop scalable data pipelines for transforming and migrating data from diverse, multi-modal sources to target systems, ensuring data quality, accuracy, and consistency throughout the process
Develop and maintain data transformation and migration workflows, adhering to best practices and industry standards
Work within an AWS ecosystem to enable automated data flow between on-prem, hybrid and cloud based storage environments for internally generated and externally ingested large scale datasets, e.g.
Implement monitoring and alerting dashboards and services to track data movement and storage utilization
Drive the design, development, and maintenance of the Altos scientific compute infrastructure spanning the cloud, on-premises, and hybrid deployments
Optimize system performance and utilization for scientific applications and underlying infrastructure
Continuously improve and maintain documentation for our development and deployment processes
Improve reliability of systems via automation, testing, and continuous integration and delivery
Who You Are
Minimum Qualifications
BS or MS. degree in Computer Science, or related quantitative field, or equivalent technical experience.
2-4 years of hands on technical experience with Cloud Infrastructure, DevSecOps, or Data Engineering, preferably in a biotechnology-focused or other life sciences research setting
Experience with containerization technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
Experience building tools in Python, Ruby, Bash, or other technologies typically used for system orchestration
Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools
Excited to design, implement, and evangelize technical and cultural standards across scientific and technical functions
Enjoys building scalable, secure, and robust systems
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with data integration tools and orchestration frameworks, such as Flyte, Apache Airflow, Apache Spark, and/or Palantir Foundry
Experience architecting and operating cloud solutions on AWS, and their data services (e.g., AWS Lambda or Glue)
Experience with scientific data management and documentation tools, including electronic lab notebook (ELN) systems (Benchling) and/or laboratory information management systems (LIMS)
Familiarity with scientific processes and terminology such as those involved in genomics, light microscopy, or mass spec
Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) principles and technologies, such as Terraform, Ansible or CDK
Familiarity working with semantic data frameworks, including ontology management systems and knowledge graphs
Knowledge of data governance, data security, and data privacy practices

$ 147,050 - $ 198,950
