POSITION SUMMARY
The Clinical Skills Trainer includes all responsibilities of a DNWest Clinical Procurement Coordinator (CPC) along with additional staff training and development functions. The Clinical Skills Trainer is responsible for ensuring the organ operations staff perform effectively and efficiently, following policy and procedure, meeting all competency requirements. This role functions as a subject matter expert, coach, and mentor to enhance clinical competency. The individual in this position is responsible for ensuring that the staff provides high quality, compliant service always, enabling the realization and maximization of donation opportunities to meet the mission and vision of Donor Network West. As a part of the Clinical Skills and Practices team, this role actively fosters an organizational culture that is based on customer-service, collaboration, support, and constructive feedback for quality improvement

Clinical Responsibilities
In conjunction with and under the direction of the Director of Clinical Skills and Practices, monitors the effectiveness of donor assessment, management, and organ recovery practices and policies to maintain consistent high standards of the organization, as well as excellent service to donor hospital staff, transplant centers, and transplant recipients.
While staff are onboarding, the Clinical Skills Trainer assists in scheduling, training, and managing day-to-day activities for new hires, in collaboration with educational development staff and team manager. Tasks include coordinating orientation and training until sign off.
Conduct field visits to provide mentoring and coaching, collect performance data, and review processes and procedures.
Provide clinical and behavioral performance feedback to orientees manager.
Assist in development of simulation scenarios, case reviews, and skills labs to reinforce learning and competency.
Collaborate with preceptors and leadership to ensure consistent and standardized clinical training.
Coordinate training presentations, training topics, and training activities for organ operations and other department meetings as requested.
Provide onboarding, annual, and as needed clinical training, skills workshops, and case reviews.
Expected to maintain CPC skills and competency by going onsite with a CPC a minimum of four (4) times annually.
As part of organ operations may be called upon to support heavy activity in "all hands on deck" situations
TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Skills and Practices and in coordination with the educational development staff, assists with developing and implementing individual and group training programs. This role helps with ongoing assessments of staff performance as well as with assessments of training effectiveness.
Effectively and professionally trains staff according to an established department training plan, current policies, and current practices.
Participates as a subject matter expert to evaluate, develop, and update training plans and materials.
Participates in the development and implementation of hands-on simulation training in collaboration with the educational development staff.
Collaborates with department leadership, preceptors, and educators for routine debriefing and feedback during staff on-boarding and as needed to identify strengths/weaknesses, review achievement/non-achievement of training objectives, identify future training goals and appropriately document staff member's case experiences.
Documents training progress in required tools and systems in an accurate and timely manner.
Provides on-site training and skills and competency assessments, both for new and established staff. Acts as a resource and coach, role modeling best practices and using all available resources.
Participates in the development and training of clinical preceptor training and of the staff precepting.
Coordinates and participates in training presentations, training topics, and training activities for organ operations and other department meetings as requested.
Advocates for learners by creating supportive learning opportunities.
Participates in the train-the-trainer program and the community of practice for learning.
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
Participates and assists team leaders with scheduling, staff training, development, coaching, counseling, appraisal, recognition, and career development and advancement.
May be asked by team leadership to provide input and assist with corrective and disciplinary actions.
In conjunction with the department leadership team, may be asked to assist with clinical candidate sourcing and interviewing.
Activates the DNWest Quality Systems occurrence reporting system and completes follow up with direct reports and leadership as assigned.
Assists the Clinical Skills and Practice team with identifying, developing, implementing, and updating DNWest, guidelines, and job aids.
Ensures compliance with established quality assurance standards as well as local, state, and federal regulations relating to organ procurement to demonstrate commitment to quality.
Participates in departmental and organizational strategic planning focused on meeting goals and key performance measures.
Attends meetings and events as requested and assigned.
Works with other members of the management team to attain DNWest's organizational goals and performance metrics. Familiar with all aspects of Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services benchmarking and speaks to continued improvement to meet measures.

QUALIFICATIONS
The Clinical Skills Trainer must have the ability to communicate, verbally and in writing, to clearly and accurately convey information either in person, electronically through email or text messaging, or by telephone to staff, healthcare partners, donor families and external stakeholders.
The employee must possess strong interpersonal skills, which allow for effectively communicating, negotiating, and resolving conflict with individuals and/or groups of individuals.
The Clinical Skills Trainer has a strong knowledge of referral management, patient assessment, clinical management, organ allocation, and the overall donation process.
Exhibits the ability to provide oversight and assess daily needs of the donation process form the viewpoint of organ operations and clinical requirements to maximize donation.
Displays good judgement and critical thinking skills.
Excellent written and verbal skills.
Skilled in fostering an environment that promotes learning and practicing technical concepts/terms.
Show empathy and approach work in a professional and kind manner.
Able to give and receive constructive feedback.
Willing to learn and apply standard practices in presentation, facilitation, and follow facilitator guides for established training.
Willing to learn and apply to learn the basics of adult learning theory and the impact of curriculum and assessment design.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in registered nursing or biological sciences or an equivalent degree/diploma/certification in an allied health care field (i.e. emergency medical technician-paramedic or respiratory therapy) preferred, commensurate work experience acceptable.
Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator. Certification may be completed in the first 12 months of employment.
Master's degree in Life Science or similar field preferred.
Minimum of three years' experience working in an organ procurement organization and as a CPC.
Proven leadership, communication, preceptor, and supervisory and coaching skills.
Must have the ability to travel within the DNWest service area by car. Must maintain a valid driver's license and current vehicle insurance based on applicable state minimum insurance coverage standards.
$150,765 - $167,915 a year
Donor Network West takes a market-based approach to pay. All candidates' starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications and interview performance.
