Position Overview
Position Summary:
Eastern New Mexico University's (ENMU) Department of Biology invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Biology to begin Fall 2024. ENMU seeks candidates with expertise in Human Genetics, Forensic Science or related fields. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and the ability to establish a research program that engages students in applied and/or basic research. This is a residential appointment and campus presence is required.
Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in Biology, including but not limited to introductory biology, genetics, and advanced courses in forensic biology and bioinformatics.
Establish an active biomedically-related research program which provides training and applied and/or basic research experiences for undergraduate and graduate students.
Seek and obtain extramural funding to support research efforts.
Direct and mentor graduate students in theses and research projects.
Maintain appropriate service to the department, college and university, including service on departmental, college and university committees, assisting with the departmental recruitment and retention efforts, and advising undergraduate students.
Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements:
Ph.D. in Biology or closely related field; ABD will be considered.
Expertise in Genetics, Forensic Science, Bioinformatics or a biomedically-related field
The ability to teach biology to students at all degree levels.
Knowledge, Skills and Talent
Commitment to excellence in teaching and willingness to teach using traditional, hybrid or online distance education technologies.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Clear plans for an active research program.
Preferred Qualifications
University-level teaching experience
Demonstrated experience with grant writing and funding.
Experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students research.
