    Nurse Tech Sitter Float System Wide - Greensboro, NC, United States - Cone Health

    Overview

    • Promotes a safe environment for patients that are deemed at risk for suicide or require supervision for safety reasons. This position serves all Cone Health campuses needing a sitter(s) and serves the following age categories: neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. In the event that there are no sitter needs, full nursing technician duties will be assigned according to patient care needs. Provides basic patient care according to the skills and competency guidelines set by the N.C. Division of Facility Services and the North Carolina Board of Nursing, Nurse Aide Central Registry. Provides patient care under the supervision of the Registered Nurse. Delivers excellent customer service utilizing Relationship Based Care to advocate for safety, patient preferences, and optimal communication through partnering with patients/families and colleagues, including all internal and external customers. Requires employee to support patient care needs at every hospital and emergency department campus. Employee must have transportation to travel to, from, and between these work locations.

    Responsibilities

    Observes patients at risk for suicide, as described in the Suicide Precaution for At Risk Patients policy (PR-NSG which includes but is not limited to: a)

    Obtain report from Nurse and follow the plan of care.

    b) Perform an environmental search as outlined in Policy (PRN-NSG c) Keep the patient within arms reach at all times including bathroom and off department activities.

    Document as needed on the Sitter Documentation Log.

    d) Perform an environmental search at any opportunity whereby contraband can be introduced into the patients room and document on the Documentation Log (for example:

    after visitors or time outside patient room). e)


    Observe patients during meals and ensure all tableware and dinnerware used by the patient are taken out of patients room.

    f) Communicate with incoming staff (lab, maintenance, dietary,etc.) that additional precaution is necessary. g) Provide patient care needs such as ADLs. h) Leave any non-essential equipment outside room and remove any equipment/supplies used or unused immediately upon leaving. i)

    Notify patients nurse of any adverse clinical changes (for example:

    different symptoms, abnormal gait, abnormal vital signs) and/or noncompliant behaviors (for example: closing door, opening window, refusal to return tableware, attempting to leave observed area).

    j)

    Provide end of shift report to next shift sitter and patients nurse Observes patient at risk for safety which includes but is not limited to:
    a)

    Obtain report from Nurse and follow the plan of care. b) Provide individualized attention to the patient to promote a safe environment. c) Assist nursing staff with patient care needs such as ADLs. d) Observe patients during meals and help feed the patient when necessary.

    e) Help the patient with any physical movement necessary (for example:

    in/out of the bed, stand up, walk, use the bathroom, take a shower, etc.). f)

    Notify patients nurse of any adverse clinical changes (for example:
    different symptoms, abnormal gait, abnormal vital signs) and/or noncompliant behaviors (agitated, combative, demented, etc.) g)

    Document as needed on the Sitter Documentation Log Demonstrate effective verbal and written communication skills, which promote a positive intra- and interdepartmental atmosphere by exerting the following skills:
    a)

    Immediately report patient status changes, patient/family concerns or unsafe conditions to patients nurse or unit leadership. b) Relay information/messages to appropriate person(s) in a timely manner. c) Demonstrate proficiency in the use of manual and automated communication systems. d) Provide input for the patients plan of care. e) Direct questions and problems to appropriate person, recognizing the need to seek assistance when necessary.

    f) Provide emotional support to patients and significant others as needed Performs direct patient care based on the requests and needs as specified by patient and family, being age appropriate:

    a)

    Provides assistance with activities of daily living:
    bathing, shaving, mouth care, skin care and progressive mobility. b) Obtains accurate vital signs and document timely. c) Reports findings outside normal parameters to nurse for appropriate intervention. d) Assists with patient nutrition to include feeding and proving supplemental snacks. e) Performs intentional hourly rounding and anticipates patient needs. f) Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharges to support patient throughput. g) Receives and responds to nurse delegation.

    Works with nurse to set priorities when receiving multiple requests Promotes a positive and efficient departmental atmosphere:
    a) Promotes patient satisfaction through personal interaction. (Patient rounding as appropriate.) b) Assists with lost or left behind patient belongings. c) Reports patient status, patient/family concerns or unsafe conditions, as occur. d) Responds to call lights/intercom/telephones. e) Directs questions and problems to appropriate person, recognizing the need to seek assistance when necessary. f) Provides assistance/support to patients and significant others. g) Assists with bed assignments, transfers and discharges. h) Monitors patient activity on and off unit. i) Collects non-controlled medications, distributing to appropriate licensed personnel on the unit. j) Observes Video Surveillance cameras. k) Communicates regarding equipment maintenance and repairs. l) Assists with maintaining a clean and safe environment Demonstrates behaviors that incorporate Cone Health values.
    Demonstrates personal accountability. Responds appropriately to emergency situations (Cone Health Codes) and demonstrates knowledge of how to respond.

    Always uses appropriate safety devices and techniques (examples:
    pushing carts; correctly lifting copy paper). Protects all confidential information and obeys all HIPAA regulations. Adheres to all organizational and departmental policies and procedures, including dress code, attendance, infection prevention, and hand hygiene. Documents time accurately using Kronos. Completes all departmentally required education, competencies, and/or proficiencies

    Qualifications


    EDUCATION:
    High School Diploma or equivalent, RequiredHigh school diploma or equivalent; completion of a Nursing Assistant training program also required. Must complete Sitter/Suicide Precaution Training/CBL/HLC.


    EXPERIENCE:
    Minimum of 6 Months, Minimum of six months of current work experience and documented competencies in area of application3or More Years, Working with at-risk patient, preferred
