    Duties


    • You will use knowledge of mechanical and electro-mechanical engineering to perform test procedures on undersea maritime and warfare systems, underwater vehicles, and antisubmarine warfare training targets.
    • You will revise processes and procedures on systems and targets.
    • You will develop troubleshooting and re-testing methods for assigned systems and targets.
    • You will develop and maintain bills of material for projects.
    • You will identify and recommend solutions to unusual problems

    Qualifications In addition to the basic requirements for the series, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower level ND-02 (GS 05-08 equivalency) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Engineer troubleshooting and recommending solutions in partnership with supervisors and other engineers to solve engineering issues and maintain Naval systems

    • Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

    Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:


    • Have successfully completed a 5 year program of study of at least 160 semester hours leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering and have one year of appropriate professional experience that required and was characterized by 1) professional knowledge of engineering, 2) professional ability to apply such knowledge to engineering problems, and 3) positive and continuing development of professional knowledge and ability; OR
    • Have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement and I have one year of professional engineering experience that required and was characterized by 1) professional knowledge of engineering, 2) professional ability to apply such knowledge to engineering problems, and 3) positive and continuing development of professional knowledge and ability; OR
    • A master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR
    • Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR
    • Have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.

    or equivalent degree; OR


    • A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience

    Qualifications Standards Manual:
    Successful completion of a professional engineering degree
    To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics
    Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position
    OR Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico
