    Job Duties

    The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, Southwest Regional Office is seeking a qualified candidate to schedule and perform regional compliance inspections to evaluate the design and operation of regulated aboveground petroleum storage tanks systems.

    Develop regional office underground and aboveground petroleum storage tank compliance inspection workplans. Schedule and perform aboveground petroleum storage tank Oil Discharge Contingency Plan (ODCP) Pollution Prevention formal compliance inspections. Implement compliance activities according to agency Enforcement Manual and enforcement procedures. Perform technical evaluation of new ODCP submittals, renewals, and modifications. Promote improved environmental performance such that any potential or actual threats to human health and the environment are reduced.

    Review aboveground petroleum storage tank closure reports to evaluate tank systems for releases and assure conformance with aboveground petroleum storage tank closure guidance and regulations.

    Responds to petroleum pollution incidents and recommend appropriate corrective actions. Update agency databases regularly with site and inspection information.


    Minimum Qualifications

    Combination of education, training and/or work experience with major course work in environmental sciences, basic hydrology, chemistry or UST/AST project management design technology.

    Must complete or provide certification of previous completion of the following National Incident Management (NIMS) courses: ICS 100, ICS200 and ICS 700.



    Additional Considerations

    • Knowledge of federal and state regulations for bulk petroleum storage and aboveground storage tank facility design and operation;
    • PC database experience including Word, Excel, CEDS, ECM, Logi, Tableau and GIS applications.
    • Certification and completion of any or all NIMS courses ICS 100, ICS 200 and ICS 700
    • Licensure, certifications or current training specifically related to petroleum UST and/or AST facility design and operation.
    • Prior experience regulating or inspecting UST/AST petroleum storage tank sites.
