    Job Description

    Position Description:

    Under the supervision of the Principal and Assistant Principals, the Dean of Students will provide assistance to the school administration on all assigned activities of the school site; to give individual assistance to students with academic or behavioral problems; to assist in the supervision of selected extracurricular activities; and to do other work as required. The Dean of Students will work an additional 2 days prior to the school year and 2 days after the school year has ended; in addition, the Dean of Students will arrive 10 minutes prior to the teacher start time and remain 20 minutes past the teacher start time daily. The Dean of Students reports directly to the Principal and the Assistant Principals. The Dean of Students is a member of the Collective Bargaining Unit and will receive a stipend for serving as Dean of Students. The stipend for the duration of the current contract will be $7,500 and hourly for after school supervision

    The purpose of this position is to directly train incoming administrators for their role as leaders in Beach Park School District 3. This training will serve as an avenue for building leadership experience and expertise prior to taking on a role as Assistant Principal or Principal. Completion of time as Dean does not guarantee that an individual will obtain such a position. Preference is given to individuals currently pursuing such leadership opportunities.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities:
    1. Will confer with students, parents, and teachers where individual students academic, attendance, and behavioral problems are involved and refer the student to the appropriate department for further counseling.
    2. Will maintain effective relationships with representatives of law enforcement and social welfare agencies in connection with serious pupil problems.
    3. Will assist teachers and social workers to better understand and work more effectively with students having related problems.
    4. Will coordinate school efforts with community agencies and authorities in student related matters.
    5. Will act as a resource for teachers, social workers, and administrators regarding student achievement, attendance, behavior, and other problems.
    6. Will attend grade-level PLC's.
    7. Will create, implement, and monitor the school's attendance plan / program with an emphasis on reducing student truancy.
    8. Will work with the social works and building administration to create, implement, and monitor the school's behavior discipline plan and program with an emphasis on improving student behavior through restorative practices.
    9. May specialize in particularly difficult or unique student behavior problems.
    10. Will initiate student suspensions and other student discipline actions to be taken by an administrator.
    11. May be involved in students' health and welfare activities.
    12. Will act as liaison with the athletic department and all relevant activities.
    13. Will participate in administrative meetings with Assistant Principals and Principal.
    14. Will supervise student lunch period.
    15. Will be required to perform other such related duties as may be assigned
    Position Qualifications:
    1. Must have a minimum of three years teaching experience.
    2. Prefer someone who is actively pursuing the role of assistant principal as evidenced by enrollment in an Master's of Education in Leadership program or current administrative certificate.
    3. Must possess appropriate Illinois teaching certification.
